Metallic noise/grinding

Postby Vpr2nv » Thu Jan 03, 2019 7:50 pm

Hi guys,

Just noticed this ugly metallic grinding/rattle happens when lower rpms and even when stationary and revving. What do you guys think it sounds like?

Ive recorded the noise on youtube.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

You’d do better with an open bonnet video I reckon.
In addition to the replies on FB, I’d recommend using the mechanics stethoscope technique using either a real one or big screwdriver to part to ear to listen to possibly affected parts.
But take care, don’t want a screwdriver through the brain via ear hole!

Top tips:
Power steering o ring, top connector on pump.
Blocked strainer in PS reservoir.
Low or dirty PS pump.
Accessory belt idler pulley failing.
Accessory belt glazed: correct tension (don’t over tension!) or deglaze belt (the vee faces only) with medium file at idle (take care to not catch the file and have it go through your eyes).
PS pump refurb (Corgiwerks).
Find a competent non ripoff mechanic :)

And do post your location, year and model.

Sounds like a loose heatshield.
When cold bang around on the exhaust and see if you can get one of the heatshields on the exhaust headers to rattle.
