Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner 98 rx ej25d

Postby gw2 » Thu Dec 25, 2014 12:27 am

Hi all, I am planning on using subaru upper engine cleaner. Firstly I have a 1998 subaru liberty rx 2.5l ej25d. I have a few questions id like to ask.

1. I have had the car for about 3 months now and I am not sure if the prev owner has ever used the upper engine cleaner, so would it be fine to use it?

2. Where would be the best place to purchase the upper cleaner? Should I buy it online or somewhere local? I live in Melbourne south eastern suburbs. Should I buy from my local subaru dealership or do they charge too much? How much should I expect to pay per can?

3. What is the exact procedure? Do I just spray half the bottle into the throttle body and start the car and keep revs above 2.5k rpm and then go for a drive? I have read I have to take the air filter and all that off, true or false?

4. While im at it should I purchase subaru fuel addictive cleaner? Or just purchase any fuel injector cleaner from repco?

Thanks for the help =)

It should be fine to use it

2. Where would be the best place to purchase the upper cleaner? Should I buy it online or somewhere local? I live in Melbourne south eastern suburbs. Should I buy from my local subaru dealership or do they charge too much? How much should I expect to pay per can?
From a Subaru dealer, or many times there is surplus stock available on ebay

3. What is the exact procedure? Do I just spray half the bottle into the throttle body and start the car and keep revs above 2.5k rpm and then go for a drive? I have read I have to take the air filter and all that off, true or false?
The procedure and instructions are listed on the can. In short, get the engine warm, 50% of the can with the engine off. Wait. then start the engine and let the remaining 50% go.

4. While im at it should I purchase subaru fuel addictive cleaner? Or just purchase any fuel injector cleaner from repco?
The Subaru fuel additive makes the engine purr when you put it in. Makes you feel wonderful after parting with all your money for a dealer service. Psychological?
Injector cleaner is a different stuff.
Fuel additive boosts octane rating. It is volatile.
Injector cleaner is a cleaning lubricant. Not so volatile. For me, Injector cleaner should not be necessary on cars running E10 and the ethanol is a scavenging cleaning agent anyway.
Try a shot of ATF. Looks and smells similar "injector cleaner"
