Sat Nav + reverse camera + entertainment sys install in Gen5

Postby GauravN4U » Tue Apr 15, 2014 1:23 pm

So I've bought my second subaru liberty ... Gen5
this one's a My12 with built in bluetooth and reverse camera.

only thing missing is a GPS / entertainment screen
How do I go about installing it ?

Other things I would like in it are:
1. Xenon headlights ... can I just buy it and replace it or do I need kits ?
2. DRL lights (good to have)

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Regards

Regarding lights, contact Leo (hks180), he is a resident lighting guru.

As for the other problem, where does the reversing image show up if you have no screen?

Aaoo I was thinking the entertainment unit would display the image from the reversing camera when reversing.
Sure there would be systems out there with a video in or some sort.

2. DRL lights (good to have)

  1. You can buy the official Xenon assemblies, but they are very expensive from Subaru and even wreckers. Any HID upgrade kit that is the same globe type will work fine and are much cheaper because you are only replacing the globes instead of the entire headlight assembly. Kits are generally cheaper than buying everything individually (not sure why anyone would do the latter really). Plenty of options out there ranging from FleaBay to Jaycar to the aforementioned forum vendors like hks180.

NOTE: Aftermarket HID globe kits are illegal if they don't have washers and levellers to go with them. While it's unlikely you will get defected in a Liberty unless you're attracting attention to yourself with orange wheels and loud exhausts, you must accept the possibility that you could get pinged for it one day.
    .
  2. Just drive with your headlights on. DRL's are not necessary and also have their own requirements to be legal such as dimming or switching off when the indicator on that side is on, which can again attract the fun-police.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...
