throttle butterfly : dirty immediately

Postby klam » Sun Feb 16, 2014 6:05 pm

guys, is it common that the inlet butterfly gets this much dirty after 2-3 weeks after cleaning it? The photo is obviously from the inner part of the throttle assy. If this is not very common, what could be the possible reason that gets spew at like this? cheers.

Looks normal to me - as long as the buildup is not runny then it could be worn piston rings causing blow by

How many kms on the engine?

Simplest fix is a proper catch can - one that takes all oil vapour feeds from the engine and redirects them

This is proof of the octane killing effect of a standard setup - part of the emissions control system

People used to laugh when I said a proper air/ oil separator (catch can) can help you make 10-15kw more power on a big setup

ok I'm sorry if this is a double post.. mea culpa, should've used the search tool here... and to answer your question, the car has 120K kms now. Regarding the 'catch can' I know nothing, so I'd better ask around wht can I do with this. The thing worries me as if it gets dirty like this after a few weeks, then how it looks after 1year? it was kind of sticky, just sprayed the uec on it to get rid of it. I'll get this checked by mechanic. thanks

Hey Mick,

is that dirt something I should be worried about or not really? Could it somewhat related to our infamous hesiation/flatspot (2.0R) ? This 'catch can', did you install it in your car? where could I get it possibly installed ... as I look within the manifold, nearly each freaking hose has a little bit of oil in it so I reckon this could help at least to keep the air intake clean..

thanks
Michael

Mick or anyone ever tried this Prova set-up? It basically does away with the can by porting the oil spray back to the filler neck. Not sure if it'd be as effective as a proper baffled can set-up though.
