Upgrading to Climate Control

Postby Liberty Wagon » Sun Feb 09, 2014 8:04 pm

Hey everyone,
Been doing a lot of research but have come up dry. My car has manual heater controls with the integrated Kenwood GX-201KN headunit. Was wanting to upgrade the stereo but there are no RHD facia kits available as far as I know. I thought an alternative may be to upgrade to climate control and was wondering how possible this would be? I would be fairly sure the wiring would be there but what else would I need? I would think I would also need a module and possibly a heater box or maybe just different linkages?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks everyone :D

Suggest you download the BODY SECTION of the MY04 Workshop Manual. Look here
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4686

The fist section covers the HVAC SYSTEM (HEATER, VENTILATOR AND A/C)
You will see all the differences between the Manual Control A/C and the Auto A/C there.

Basically, you will need the Blower Motor Assembly, as this carries the Control Unit for the Auto A/C and the Power Transistor for the Fan Sped Control.
You will also need the Heater Box Assembly, as this carries the Air Mix Actuator.

Then you will need the Head Unit Controls, Wiring Harness connectors plus the electrical wiring diagrams to build and modify your wiring harness and bring it all together.
Good luck!

Once upon-a-time in a prior life I was Chief Engineer for OEM HVAC supplier to Australian Auto Manufacturers.
I have some experience with Auto Climate Control systems and components.
Good luck with your project.
It is not impossible, however very complex.

Forgot to also mention the Solar Load Sensor (on the dash top) and the ambient temp sensor (behind the grille) and the cabin return air temperature sensor that you will also require.
Cheers!

I would be interested still though mate, apparently E-go is quite reasonable for a courier. I would definitely be interested if you would consider it.
