Purchased a Liberty that needs a new engine.

Postby 08_adaml » Mon Jan 20, 2014 9:36 am

Hey guys,

I just purchased my 2nd Subaru... I have came from a my05 wrx hatchback, and wanted something a bit better on fuel and something alot harder to get into trouble with.

i found a 2004 (my04) liberty wagon, with 134000kms, full service histroy etc. I am not a mechanic but am pretty mechanically minded, so i purchased this car, which has a seized 2.5i ej25 in it..

I am now on the hunt for a 2nd hand ej25, but half way through searching i was told the early libertys had many variations of the ej25, and i will have trouble unless i found another ej25 from the same year (myo4)...

i just want to find out how true this statement is, i thought i'd be sweet to purchase an engine between 2003 right up to 06, (pre facelift). can someone with experience please confirm this?\

Much appreciated, and looking forward to joining in the liberty community!

Not yet, after seeing it, i bought it, got it towed straight to the workshop. The previous owner had his e-tag on his dash, covering the oil light, he didnt realize it came on and drove the car for ages with no oil until the car came to a dead stop. i got a wrench on the crank, and a pole, and couldnt even make it budge. i was gonna just rebuild it, but itd be alot easier to swap it over with a lower km'd car.

and im in sydney

Wow, what a stupid place to put it. Wonder if they didn't bother to regularly service as well? Matthew Whitehouse should be able to sell you one at a decent price, not sure of his forum name but you'll find him on the FB page

If you're waiting for the oil light to come on before checking your oil you deserve to have your engine seize. Best way to check is look at the VIN plate and see what it says next to "Engine Code".

Good luck with it all!
I would have thought 04-06 would have been the same engine too... i think the ECU's can be different though.
