98 RX Idle Problem

Postby Yterbil » Tue Jan 29, 2013 11:41 pm

Sorry if this has already come up but i have a 1998 Gen 2 RX Liberty and when i start it cold it battles to start but when it finally does fire it doesnt idle correctly. Sometimes it just wont hold at its normal idle speed and drop to zero and stall the car. But this is only when cold... this confused me a bit because when its warm it is perfectly fine. i was forced to drive it the other day and i had to constantly rev it until it was warm so as you could imagine... not that practical.

I then replaced all spark plugs to try and solve it but still has this problem but not as severe as before. ( also did oil/oil filter while i was at it if that helps)

Please help!

- I did post this on The Mighty Car Mods Forum but i was recommended to come here

Something on the cold fueling side sounds amiss.
With out seeing the car it's hard but things like
Engine temp sensor
Coolant temp sensor
Themechanism for opening the throttle body to rise the idle (im assuming being cable driven there should be a little motor)
Intake air temp
Air flow meter
Dirty throttle body ( maybe run a can of upper engine cleaner through )

Have any faults been logged
Gen 2 pritty sure it's the two green plugs above the brake pedal then turn to acc should flash the check engine light
But hopefully another member here can confirm that
