Those carpeted lining are a pain to clean when full of oil and grease though.

Dynamat fixes a few of the cheap noises and rattles and still you don't weigh as much as a fat German

Agree with you there... I haven't had to clean it off yet, touch wood! Just a high pressure spray.

I've been in plenty of beamers and mercs that rattle like crazy. especially the convertibles. I owned a toyota sprinter years ago that didnt rattle at all, but that was purely because it had nothing in it to rattle. lol

Sorry to post in an old thread but I thought this could possibly be useful to someone.

I managed to stop my shelf rattling with a bit of foam I purchased from clark rubber
I removed the back shelf using vipers walkthrough which can be found here http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=17131

got half a metre of foam stuff for $5 at clark rubber and just cut a few holes in it where they needed to go and threw it under the back shelf like so

Then I just glued a few extra pieces that were scrap where I thought there would be a void between the 2 surfaces.

Before I did this, I couldnt turn the stereo up to about 15 volume on +2 bass without getting an annoying rattle. Now turned right up I dont get any rattles at all.
If I was to do it again and was on a budget, Clark rubber has heaps of foam off cuts which they sometimes let you take for free. This may be enough to fill in the gaps on your shelf enough to stop rattles. I also kinda think I should have left the foam covering the sub as it could provide a bit of extra protection from the sun while not having to much of an effect on the sound.

Nice work, the parcel shelf rattle is driving me nuts as well and this looks like a great solution.
