Gen 2 Liberty suspension change

Postby TimTams » Fri Nov 02, 2012 1:45 pm

Hi all,

I bought a 1998 liberty RX with lowered springs. It came with the original springs but it is scraping the body kit on the ground so I am wanting to put them back in. I have heard it is a lot of work and involves removing the rear seats

Can someone please give me a quick blow by blow of what i will need to do to change the springs front and rear (or point me to a previous post with this info)? I did a quick search but couldn't find anything for my gen 2.

I'm plenty experienced enough, have done heaps of major stuff on my pajeros/delica etc but haven't done any work on this car ever

Cheers

you will need spring compressors to fit the stock springs.

fronts are easy enough, 3 top bolts, brake lines and hub bolts. the top bolt on the hub is an adjustable camber bolt, so mark its position or get a wheel alignment afterwards.

for the rears you need to remove the seat base and back and undo the top 3 bolts. and again hub bolts and brake line. Can't remember how the rear seats come out, if its the same as the gen1s there is a bolt on either side in the footwells for the base and then it lifts out. and the backrest has a bolt on either side and then lifts upwards as it hooks in on the top.

Wagons are so much easier, they just have a trim piece you need to pop up to get to the top bolts.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

From memory I dont think the seats needs to come out as they fold in forwards... but i think you have to remove the parcel shelf - I did that about 5 years ago.... Fronts are easy.
