Very low revs followed by engin light then when I drive it g

Postby Sawdy91 » Wed Aug 22, 2012 10:56 am

So when I drive around the car is fine drives nice and I have no problem then while I sit at a set of lights or in a car park anything to do with low revs my idel drops lower than 500revs and after a few seconds of that the engin light turns on and the cruise light flashes I know it has a electronic throttle control I want to know if there is something I can do at home like adjust idel or something is this a big deal? Will it be expencive to fix?

That sounds like a Check Engine Light, so either go to your dealer or mechanic, or find someone that could read the CEL code...
E.g. myself and a few others could assist if you are in Melbourne...

Edit: As a last resort option, you could at least try an ECU reset (search forum) for starters, to see if that even temporarily alleviates the issue. (see Bruce's comments below)

There could be many reasons for this.

I agree with Ben to get it checked for which CEL is being logged in the ECU either via a workshop or someone in your area with a OBDII port connector and appropriate software.

I'm not in favour of clearing CELs without understanding what's going on.

If you've not played with the idle setting in the ECU previously then that's not required to fix this now.

Any mechanic should be able to check it. It won't be very much to check the code, but depending what they find on the computer it may be to fix, you never know until you check the code.
