Fit wrx STI seats into gen4?

Postby owen » Tue Jul 31, 2012 9:35 pm

Does anybody know if this is straight forward or if the rails are different, seat airbag plugs don't match etc?

I have something like this in mind if it's not too much of a hassle. I still want to have a functioning passenger airbag

Yea I know they are left hand drive. That link is just an example of the GRB seats I want.

I spoke to kris already today. He had a set for sale which is now sold. And he's never had anybody try them into a gen4.
I've had a quick read on legacygt. it looks like a massive pain in the ass, but they were swapping 04-05 seats into 05lgt/outbacks with heated seats. Not sure if it will be easier with a 08-11 STI seat into my 07 gtb?

Has nobody on this forum installed aftermarket seats? every time I take a corner im either bracing myself against the door, or falling into the passenger seat.

I'd wager a years income no lib on this forum creates the cornering g's mine does, and stock seats work fine for my 90kg Lard arse :p

If kris has another I can drop up and fit them in mine to check. Often up near his place.

All Subaru Liberty/Impreza/Forester front seats will fit in another Subaru Impreza/Liberty/Forester without a problem - it's only the back seats that vary.

The side airbag connector and seatbelt sensor is a standard connector between all Subaru's and that will hook right up. The only thing that changed between earlier Subaru's and newer sones was the connector for electric adjustment controls and the optional heater. Older Subaru's had separate connectors while newer Subaru's have it combined into a single connector. Easily fixed by building an adapter cable, though.

Here's my MY06 front seats hooked up to my MY08 with a homemade adapter cable to provide the ground and 12v lines for the electric seat controls from the MY08's 4-pin connector.

Image

Yellow plug is the side airbag, black is the power connector for the electric seat adjustment and the white is the seatbelt sensor.

If you call Maximum Motorsport 08 9249 7444 they have a few nice and new seats that have come out of late model wrxs/stis they are converting to race spec.
The fit nice in mine but the airbag plugs were different and I didnt want to muck about.

Gen4 seats front seats dont bolt straight into Gen1 up to Gen3 as the mounts are different.

The seats in the 07-09 are crap compared to the 04-06 seats that have a lot more bolstering.

Ah, fair enough - perhaps it would be more accurate to say that Subaru's of the same generation should fit between each other then.

Buy this one instead

http://www.rhdjapan.com/sti-semi-bucket ... l-bp-58938

And in response to whether members on this forum have installed aftermarket seats...yes a few have. But the ones I know have bought proper Recaro or Bride seats that are made for their specific model of Liberty.

Note: for anyone like bruce who will take my suggesion seriously, it was clearly a joke, I don't expect OP to spend a few grand on a bucket seat
