Removing Roof Trim 05 Wagon

Postby jay.ritchie » Thu Jun 21, 2012 10:00 pm

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows how to completely remove the roof trim from an 05 wagon. I need to do some sunroof repairs!
I’ve gotten to the point where i can remove the sun visors, front grab handles and the centre light. Checked the servicing docs that came with the car and theres nothing remotely close.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Try the workshop service manual!

Should be similar for your car.

I'll be attempting same on my MY07 wagon, if a specialist can't do a relatively inexpensive fix.
Mine jammed, I cranked it shut.
Flicking the switch I hear a distant "click" coming from the motor area, but no open or close...
If it's not something sticking the mechanism, and your electric windows still work, then:
If it's not a relay in the dash or roof, it must be the motor.
From memory there are relays adjacent the map light housing in the roof (sedan).

I was quoted $1550 of which 1K is the motor! They sub out the work to a specialist.
So I'll just go direct... I'm fairly sure that prestigesunroofs.com.au were recommended.
Otherwise I'll be looking for a S/H or reco motor and trying to install that myself...

Let us know how you go!!!

Goodluck! Im taking mine apart early next week. I’d rather spend 24 hours doing it myself rather than paying someone to do it. Especially as i have the spare time.

Great - very much looking forward to seeing that!
I would do it anyway if only to wrap some of the stuff up in there to stop the intermittent rattling.

There's not much evidence of sunroof problems on this forum, I'd say they're fairly reliable.
During summer I was using it all the time, the sunshade had a tendency to jam which probably lead to the breakdown in my case.
I intend to tint the sunroof glass and leave the sun shade open all time regardless of the motor/operation being fixed.

Hey guys. Let us know any tips and traps to look out for.

I think I need to take out my roof lining - found a spot of rust in the roof at the corner of my right rear roof rack rail... I'm a bit worried how bad it will be on the underside of the roof

Just pulled out the roof trim and re-installed it today.
Its all pretty straight forward although it takes a while unscrewed all the handles/visors and lights. Its also a bit difficult pulling the roof trim over the side pillar trims even when they’re unclipped from the top.

With the roof trim off i also took the sunroof glass off, and poured water into the tracks to find the leak, took 5 seconds to find and now its all sealed up!
