Random part - what is this?

Postby teflon » Fri Dec 30, 2011 4:19 pm

I was cleaning out my radiator today after my recent drive back from Brisbane to Adelaide and I found this random part sitting at the bottom of the bumper - wasn't attached to anything! Have no idea what it is or where it belongs or whether it matters if it's installed or not? Any clues what it is???

That's the flux capacitor holder. Don't tell me you have lost your flux capacitor too?

Lol guys... Kieran I thought that the biofuel wasn't burning so well... and Ric, I wondered if it might belong to another vehicle but I'm fairly sure it's a car part that was previously on my car...

I once found heaps of feathers (but no bird carcass, and definitely don't remember any birds flying across my path)... maybe you car swallowed another car like Ric said?

It looks like a bracket to mount something to but if everything works and there is no visible damage anywhere I wouldn't give it a second thought, just put it in the spare parts pile. If you are that worried ask to borrow someones car that is the same as yours and start pulling down the front end, bumper, grille, lights etc until you find where it goes.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

That's what I figured Dropz... Took the grille off last night and had a look around but couldn't really see where it would mount so I've just added it to my ever growing list of spare parts!

That looks to me very much like the support that runs up the middle of the inside of the mesh grille, behind the badge. I actually took that out for a while when I installed my grille, before putting it back in sometime later. You can see it through the mesh in the attached photo.

Bingo Endorphin... that must be it! Thanks mate! Glad you've finally posted :D (saw your intro too!). I had my bumper repaired by a wrecker recently and when the car was on the dyno the other day the sports grille was flapping about a lot. I took the grille off when I found that part the and they hadn't clipped it in properly in parts... might put it back in, but to me it doesn't seem like it does a lot?

I put mine back in for two reasons: It hides the bonnet release mechanism, which isn't that pretty, and I was paranoid about leaning on the top of the grille with the bonnet open, and having it snap under the weight.

If you don't care about either of those, then just leave it out

Cheers
