To get the most out of an AFR guage (meaningful info)

You will need a wideband sensor installed in the exhaust

I have the AFR readout on my ECUdatascan which uses the stock sensor in the exhaust and its ok for a guide, but not what youd call reliable

Don't put a norrowband in. It's a pretty swinging gauge that tells you nothing.

I'll quantify that by explaining that a factory (narrowband) O2 sensor can tell the difference between <14.7 afr, 14.7 and >14.7. It has a narrow band where it's accurate.

A WIde band, such as what Boxer is referring to above is accurate between 8 and 20 afr. It will tell you useful information. It costs more, and you need to replace and in some types recalibrate the sensor.

In case you're interested this all changes if you're using methanol or jet A.

Well I have a spot on my extractors to place one so I won't have to replace a factory one at all, just use this one to give me the afr reading for the gauge. Is the wideband sensors on eBay for about $80 worth buying or should I spend $200 for something that is going to do the same thing?

I have an AEM Uego, it cost me $220 in a group buy. I'd suggest one of those or an Innovate.

Or if you're more of the DIY type of person, you can go a 2Y kit from www.wbo2.com.
