My first argument - what is better and why?
Orbital buffer or rotary buffer?

i think that its fair to say that the black car guys are super keen to find a wax and polish device (other than karate kid version wax on wax off) that is the most effective in polishing the car

I'd get a random orbital because its safer, I'd be scared of holograms if I used a rotary as I have a black car too... I believe the rotarys advantage is speed, which probably doesn't factor if you are going to go to all the effort of detailing your car...

Definitely get an orbital, there's quite a bit of skill required for rotary buffers, if your not careful you could be burning, add holographics or buffing straight through your paint especially on edges and corners

From what I can say is that never get random orbital and random orbital is not the same as Dual action.

But get Dual action, because it spins like rotary and make orbit like random orbital, and it's really safe for your paint.

I definitely prefer DA for easy use and rotary for fast.

Rotary the main thing is to practice and not to burn paint.

Basically it's not hard, and the key thing is to maintain the speed and also check on the heat on your car paint.

Anyway, if you want something easy and safe, get Dual action like Kestrel DAS-6 or Meguiar's G220. But if you want to wait, wait for G220 Version 2, faster, stronger, and less vibration.

Yeah, basically RO in Bunnings that I saw, is not as good as Random Orbital.

The one that I prefer, is this on www.waxit.com.au

You can choose with pads or without pads. It's the DAS-6, 240 bucks delivered to your house and it's pretty darn cheap for DA.

But you need pads and pads costs more. If using DA, just buy 2 polishing pads and 2 finishing pads. Don't buy cutting pads since DA is not meant to be use with cutting pads, it can make smearing or to be holograms.

Anyway, yeah, if someone wants to see the DAS-6 I'm more than happy to show it and give it a try, since Kieran(chaotic), he also wants to see the DA first before buying.

Juice Qcut is the secret to rotary buffs. It works cold no friction heat required. Finish with sponge pad

This thread is as good a place as any to ask I reckon.

Has anyone used the small Mothers hand held polishing machine and if so are they any good. Now before the arguments/speculative posts begin I am only after something to make the job of polishing my car every now and then easier and faster and still be left with a "nice" finish. The sort of nice finish I can get using pads and cloths and do by hand, but with less effort as I seem to have less and less time to make the car look nice.
Note: If I want it professionally finished I will get a professional to do it.

I've seen these recently advertised for around $100 bucks (with mothers polishes which I can pass on to the wife and use my stuff on my car) which isn't too bad if it works well enough.

It's all good mate, I found some informative reviews and even for the basics they don't rate overly high. Apparently quite efficient at putting the wax on but not so good at buffing off.

I'm likely to take the plunge and buy a concourse 9000 unit with pads etc from waxit.com.au. Will do what I want and then some more when I get the bug back.

Same buffer that I will getting..

It should be better than the first edition DAS-6 AKA first gen of "Concours 9000". Better watts, better power.

DAS6PRO actually same with the concours9000 if i'm not wrong.. hehehehe..

CONCOURS 900 is better. check out the specs of both.
Seems to be a bit longer body aswell.

Seems as though I made the right choice then (by not purchasing the Mothers one that is).
