Dash Repair Sydney (Vinyl? - Liberty Gen4)

Postby kyle » Mon Apr 07, 2014 11:50 am

I have a few small scratches (one right through the material) a few inches above the glove box that I'm trying figure out options for good repair (hopefully not replace).

Also a small cut on one of the rear passenger arm rests that I'd like to fix but they're so small I might be able to find a second hand one - not so much the entire dash I imagine.

Is this something that a detailing shop could fix? I notice the only Sydney one in the sticky thread (DMS) is closing down, so if so any suggestions appreciated.

Unable to find much info on replacing the entire item, but I imagine they'd be the pricey side, and difficult to find good ones second hand...

Any thoughts/suggestions would be great - it's almost painful to look at!

I've gone through this already myself. Simply put they can do "some" fix, but it will never be a complete fix as apparently it's impossible to do it perfectly (main reason being is that the faux leather vinyl is really really thin). If you're OCD, it will always bother you regardless.

In my case, I found that a replacement dash turned out to be quite cheap ($200 from a wrecker, including the passenger airbag) so I just swapped it out. I feel much better about it too. Here's some pics from my replacement process (it's surprisingly not hard to do, just a little time-consuming).

Prep-work - removed the old dash:

Old dash (bottom) vs the new dash (top) prior to installation. I had to remember to swap the VIN plate over from my dash to the new dash so it would appear in the little window at the bottom of the windscreen as well. Just drilled it out and riveted it into the new one.

I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

I had a rattle in my dash that got the better of me one day so I started wailing the piss out of it.
Which resulted in this..

I was googling dash repair (I have a chip in mine) and came across this. The answer is even on the forum lol :D . Thank you.

Btw, does the repair look as glossy as it does in the picture? The rest of the dash looks much more matte. Or is it a good match?

And btw, regarding the dash rattle, we sell these Dash Rattle Stopper and they work great :)
