Windscreen rain repellents - what's better than RainX?

Postby paggaz » Thu Feb 28, 2013 1:17 pm

There's nothing better than driving on the freeway in the rain, with no wipers going but a treated windscreen, watching other vehicles struggling to see with their windscreen wipers on full speed.

I've been a big user of RainX - the stuff is great in the rain when applied to the windscreen. What I've noticed recently though is that the product doesn't last as long anymore. A few years ago, I think they used to claim up to 6 months, but now the product wears out in month - if that. I just had a new windscreen replaced. On my way from Central QLD to Canberra, I applied it before I left but it got to a point where I stopped over about half way, just to reapply the RainX (yeah I keep a bottle of it in the boot lol) - albeit it was pouring rain most of the way down.

Are there any other better windscreen treatment products out there which does a similar thing but will last longer? Or should I just stick to my RainX?
Keen to hear opinions and experiences. :)

Hamish recommends Nanolex glass sealant, and I do too :D
This will last longer than RainX.

If Ultra Ever Dry was 100% transparent, I'd happily shell out for that for my windows. Sadly, it's a little hazy.

That Nanolex looks interesting. Like most others, I use RainX a lot and it's great, but yeah - doesn't last long enough.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

The people who do Opticoat are about to release a water repelling product for windows.

Regular Opticoat can be applied to windscreens but theres a risk of stuffing it up which will affect visibility. Would be interested in their new glass product when it comes out.

I have used the ZAS Nano Glass Kit, I was given a sample to test out for ZAS before they started selling it, good stuff too.
It's probably a similar product to Nanolex.
