Cleaning and Rinsing Rims - with Warm/Hot water

Postby SYM » Sun Jul 29, 2012 7:26 am

Hi All

Just a small tip I got from Magman (who painted my rims) - hes not a fan of the plethora of spray on wheel cleaners, and instead recommends to simply use a 100% cotton towel and warm/hot soapy water (and then a method to clean the spokes using your index and middle finger together_

And then rinse off with clean hot water to minimise water spotting on the wheels.

Re soapy water - he actually is a fan of morning fresh dishwashing detergent!

That detergent will strip away waxes and sealants though so I wouldnt be using that on any part of the car.

Thanks for the tip!

I had a wtf moment when he suggested that... So im sticking to my usual car wash shampoo, but admit that higher temp water works with dust/grime removal as well as rinsing (if u don't want spots)

morning fresh would definitely clean up your wheels, but make sure it doesn't touch any of your paintwork like Kieran said.

Its good shit for wheels.....

I have a seperate sponge and wheel brush for my wheels.

Just clean them with normal car wash and dry with a different chamois than for the paint work. Wheel chamois is also used for door jams, etc.

Wool wash is awesome as car wash also..... No shit.
