Just a short note to say hello. Personally, i'm an ex Subie owner (GC8, then a buggy - two of the greatest ever made WRX's, imo).

I was very pleased when a fellow forum member contacted Moonlight Detailing to have a full paint correction on his Liberty H6 (Silver). He had seen our previous work on Euro's and decided it was time for his Liberty to have the Moonlight TLC.

When the car came it, the owner made it clear that the car had been used as it should. Offroad, dusty areas, etc. Upon our first inspection, the paintwork felt like 1200 grit sandpaper. Moonlight took on the project with gusto (so much so we forgot to take before pics!). It was clear to MD that the car had never been clayed, with the sandpaper-like texture to the paint remaining after the initial washing of the car. The clay bar removed all top-of-paint contaminants, ready to be washed a second time and compounded to correct the paintwork.

Following the machine compound, a long machine polish and a hard-cured wax application really took the car into the 'special finish' category.

The owner was very happy, and continued the Moonlight client tradition of not being able to stop touching the car to feel how smooth it was!

Thanks for the kind words!

Mainly using Facebook at the time being, it is a lot kinder on bandwidth and time spent updating than a fully-fledged website.

I prefer for our potential clients to see every bit of work we do, not just our best looking (however we do our absolute best on every single car). I feel that's a much more honest way we can show you what we do.

Just curious in your Midnight package why your using Diluted Isopropyl alcohol wash to remove all wax as a initial wash? Seems very odd.

Where are you guys based?

Champ, indeed not only does being 6'0" help but I have a huge 'wingspan' even for my height. It helps immensely!

Thank you Hamish, much appreciated. Our Midnight Package is aimed at completely renewing the car. I prefer to strip the wax prior to clay in order to remove any bonded contaminants (tree sap, tar). I have found with wax still on the paintwork, the clay does not live up to its full potential.

How time consuming is it to clean the car with the diluted alcohol? Wouldn't it take absolutely ages to do because you would have to stop every few seconds to remove the alcohol before it dries on to the paint? I can't imagine dried on alcohol could be good for the paint at all, and considering how quickly that stuff dries, how do you do it safely?

Hi Kieran,

IPA, when diluted with water, does not evaporate at even close to the speed of raw IPA.

To strip wax, a mixture of between 5:1 and 10:1 is used. This ensures the IPA does not evaporate, takes off the wax, and does not harm the vehicle. It is standard procedure in the detailing world to use either diluted IPA or diluted citrus degreaser to remove wax safely from paintwork.

Post IPA we clay, and after the clay the car receives a second wash with soft wash and no IPA.

Even at a weak mix it has been known to soften paint, that's why a lot of detailers use a stronger car wash solution, all purpose cleaner etc to strip wax or a quick wipe of 10:1 demineralised water/IPA allowing the wax to be stripped but the IPA doesn't sit of the paint too long.

Yes, but really depends for what purpose the IPA/other solution is being used for.

IPA wipes are used in small areas to release polish to double check imperfections in between correction stages.

We use IPA as part of our first wash solution to strip wax so we aren't working against it. We have a much better final finish this way.
