:!: Noob questions:

When using a clay bar how much pressure should you use?

Which products would you recommend to remove water spots and swirls (I heard that swirl x is alright but wanted to know what else is out there)?

Don't apply any forced pressure just enough to hold the clay flat against the paint. wipe over paint and make sure you use alot of clay lube, too less lube or too much pressure can cause marring. If drop throw away. Otherwise you will scratch the paint badly. Some panels you might get next to nothing some panels you might get alot of contamination so constantly flick off debris And fold clay into itself.

Scratch x, swirl x is ok but to get rid if swirl marks completely you will need a machine buffer or have it professionally detailed. Alternately some paint glazes and sealant hide some imperfection marks to s certain degree but this is not a long term fix.

Thanks Guys,

Im looking at going down the machine buffer path atm - I'd love to learn how to detail my car instead of having to pay someone else but at the same time I don't want to ruin my paint.

I've been reading on the FI forums that the Bosch unit is a good entry level RO.

I assume you have to use a product with these - what do you recommend for pads and polish?

Got this off DMS facebook page.....
Hey Guys,
Sadly I'm announcing that DMS Detailing will cease trading as of June 30, 2011. It has been an enjoyable and incredibly rewarding ride, but the time has come for me to move on to something new in my career.
Thank you all for your support over the last 6 years, without you I couldn't have done it.
So if you'd like to give your pride and joy one last detail, let me know as spots are filling fast!
Thanks Dan

Heard his works great so i'm booking my car in before i miss out. :(

Why should everyone avoid oily tyre sprays?

Image

- Attracts dust and dirt as it doesn't dry on the tyre

Image

- Overspray makes rim itself dirt and dusty

Image

- flings onto paint and isn't the easiest to wipe of cleanly

Always forget to tell the mechanic to stop spraying it on. :angry2:

Tyreshine that dries is good and there are several brands that are fine but just not the oily spray that a lot of those shops use.

Can anyone recommend a good detailer in Sydney? It's been a while since this topic has been brought up so wondering who is good to go to in recent times?

In particular I'm looking at getting my car claybarred and lightly polished if necessary, along with applying my paint protection I bought from Final Inspection.

Hey guys. Over the weekend I tried the Meguiars non acid cleaner with a wheel brush and got a lot of the junk off but there are what looks like stains left.
Would my next move be a mild cutting polish and elbow grease or is there something else I can try?

thanks
Mike

DIRECTIONS WITH WATER - CLEAN 1 WHEEL AT A TIME. Apply liberally to a cool dry wheel. Allow product to penetrate surface for no longer than 30 seconds. Dirty wheels may require agitation with a brush. Rinse thoroughly with a strong stream of water. Dry wheel with a 100% cotton terry towel.

Sounds like you let it sit there for far too long.

Hey Kieran,
If you're referring to the wheel cleaner being left too long, I did as per the instructions on the package. If your referring to leaving the wheels dirty for too long then i'm in 100% agreement.

As can be seen in the pictures the calipers are in a bad way also. Anyone have any ideas/product recommendations for those?
Will IronX do the job on those too?

Thanks
Mike
