Point taken Smythie.

When I saw the cost/size of SSD, I changed my mind. SATA HDD it is then.

Hey, Harvey Norman has a $198 special on a ASUS Netbook 8.9 inch Atom N270.

Any comments before I buy one?

for $198 I'd guess it only has 1 gig RAM. Which OS? XP or 7 starter. If 7, you should be looking at spending a little for another gig of RAM, though that'd be something I'd do after getting it. If you think you can put up with the machine, get it - that's a good price IMO. Another $50-100 for another stick of RAM will make it much better and still be good value

Well, in the end I settled for the $396 special, the Samsung N150, with Atom N450 at 1.6GHz, 10.1 inch LCD LED, 1Gb DDR2 RAM, 160Gb HDD, 3 x USB, Card Reader, WiFi, Win XP. The cheaper one turned me off when, out of the box, it crashed and then had a continous stream of errors. Set up was easy when I got it home, but then it went thru an update cycle. All worked well. Will continue with customising it as a tuning tool tomorrow.
