hoping one of the technical people here might be able to help.

I have purchased one of the AEM Widebands that has the ODBII piggyback outlets, that you can put another odbii device onto like Tactrix and be able to datalog through the same usb.

But I can not make Rom Raider data logger read the wideband, only the tactrix.

Has anyone ever played with this setup before? It also has the outputs for RS-232 so i'm considering just making a cable for that side and plug it in that way. I tried all the settings on the gauge and the setting in Rom Raider.

I have not tried this specific approach with the piggy back plug, but I’ve looked up the other approaches for wbo2 logging.

The easiest method is standalone logging mode (see the end of this post lol).

The most basic method is to use the gauge 0-5v output into a serial to USB adapter, and select that in Romraider’s external sensor parameter section. And as you say, this is an option on your new gauge.

The next method is deleting the rear o2 CELs in the tune, and repurposing the rear o2 sensor ecu inputs (0-5v signal and any ECU ground) and creating a custom parameter in Romraider that uses the rear o2 sensor address, but with the parameter name and scaling rpn (math) to suit the wbo2.

This method is very stable and reliable as regards the connections. This method also works with Btssm (both do but the former is somewhat less reliable).

So I’ve seen these gauges with the obdii pass through, but haven’t sussed out the methodology for open source logging these, but I’d imaging its similar to the latter method, but you’re skipping the need to tap into unused ecu inputs.

So whilst your car and mods are fairly unique, the question will not be, so I’ll just google “aem xseries wbo2 romraider” and see what’s going on:

So it looks like the obdii logging option is not yet supported in Romraider.

I forgot a third option which is using the 0-5v output into the mini jack on the Tactrix with an appropriately configured mSD card in the slot in the Tactrix, this feature is called standalone logging mode, its very slow as regards the data rate, but better than nought. Logging is activated using the rear defrost button.

For this method you’ll need to create a logging.cfg text file with your desired parameters and put the .cfg text file in the root directory of the mSD card. Back in the day this was made easier using an online parameter generator, hopefully it still works and your ecu is supported!

I had been googling last night and found the exact result you found about it not being supported, which in turn hit me to the Jaycar site to make an rs232 patchlead for the gauge which i am currently putting together now

Super! So good. Definitely the easiest approach.

after getting a bit stuffed around with Car Mods Aus for an AEM patch lead, i had a massive brainfart at the usual 2 am.

If the ODB2 section of the lead doesnt work, why not depin it and use the leads ?

Now all working, romraider has accepted my wideband through rs232 serial.

Are you getting 14.7 at idle on the AEM vs the stock a/f sensor?

Is the external sensor input to RR stable on a restart?

both factory sensors and the wideband on idle are pretty close.

I have to tell it to relook at it a startup, but it comes up straight away, it only does to 3 digits unlike the gauge which is 4 digits deep, probably doesn't matter that far but i am pretty happy now i can log everything at the same time. I'll get a lot more logging done and I can pass it onto Matt.

I ask because back in the day, some aem wbo2 gauges would read eg 14.4 when the stock sensor was reporting stoich 14.7.

After much searching for answers online, the outcome wasn’t a scaling issue, rather the gauge would be accurate and already scaled for specifically the rich conditions.

For a fixed wbo2 install via serial USB, the solution for automatic reconnection may have involved using a delay timer for the connection, plus ig2 fuse tap, cabin fuse box, for gauge power…
