Base Map Update Help?????

Postby DanT » Fri Jun 16, 2017 4:44 pm

Hi 8) :?:

FIRST POST EVAAAAA!!!!!!

I am new to tuning Subaru's and recently brought a 2003 Subaru Legacy B4 3.0R UA-BLE variant 14 with the 5EAT box. Love the car, so far only change I have made is dual mufflers and removing the second resonator and replaced it with straight pipe and replaced all springs with cobras and cobra custom front shocks along with 18"8.75 mags.

At the moment the car has a tendency to give all or nothing. When I first brought it from the dealer it chewed through some oil in the first 5000km's but since doing a full change to 5w40 full synthetic it has not used any in the 2400km's since I also replaced the air filter at the same time and cleaned the MAF. When looking on my obd scanner everything looks fine and I can't see any issues. I am currently running 98 octane which it likes a lot and I know my right foot is probably to blame but my fuel economy on the dash shows as 5.4km/pl and that's really not to great even for around town. The best figure I was able to get out of town on the open road was 12km/pl.

The spark plugs are the next thing I am replacing hoping they will help a little but I also heard the later models had much better maps then the originals is this true?

Mine is a 2003 which I believe was there first year, but there was no major changes to the engine or ecu till 06 when they moved to a 1mb ecu from what I have read. Also the engine remained unchanged till 2009 just with further mapping and ecu updates done to accommodate drive line changes etc.

Could I potentially download a stock 2005 model map from a JDM 2005 with the 5EAT transmission and flash it to my model? I would be looking to get a better base map before I start tuning and hopefully help the drive by wire tuning, remove the stupid factory limiter the 03 has as well as improve fuel economy and possibly throttle response etc

Not looking for a fix all but a head start before I have to take it to the dyno would be great. I priced up various options from remote tuners etc but found a company locally that said if I supply my laptop with the software they are willing to put it on the 4wd dyno they have and charge 120per hr for a tune.

In the future I plan to get raptor headers re do more of the exhaust get a proper CAI up size the injectors and the fuel pump and get some strut braces and new bushes all round along with a re spray and some interior alterations.

Thanks for any help in advance

My advice would be contact Matt from kidotuning aka throttlehappy tuning.

Save yourself a bunch of time that way.

Otherwise you might want to join the romraider forums and start reading there.

Would he be able to tell me if a 05 map would be compatible?

Also I have joined the romraider forums but there pages are a bit of a mess hard to make heads from tails but I will keep trying to learn from what is there.

Not sure why stop at the 05 rom. Why not just get a tune from Matt and have his knowledge from the latest subarus transfer to your final tune.

The idea wasn't to stop at the 05 tune it was to use it as a base before going to the dyno.

I'm waiting on a Tactrix 2.0 i ordered atm and when it arrives have a dyno down the road that will charge 120hr and allow me to use there wideband o2

I know Matt is amazing but probably also more expensive then my local shop

Typically you wouldn't expect to be able to flash the 05 rom directly into the 03.

But you could copy each table from the 05 rom one by one over to the 03 rom.

I would like to learn how to eventually tune myself and invest in a wideband O2 at a later stage, so maybe that would be a good way to start.

Is there anyone super experienced with the 3.0R that could maybe tell me if the 03 would be compatible with the 05 rom or its parameters and if there is indeed any change between the two?

You'll save fuel with a kiddo tune 1-1.5 litres per 100km..... pays for itself in no time.
All from a bloke who has done a lot on these cars and knows how to get the best from them.

If you want to learn, download both stock roms here:

http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopi ... d7e8c548dc

Then use the compare function in romraider to see the differences in the maps

Are you opening the roms in ecuflash or romraider?

in romraider because I didn't think you could edit with ecuflash only pull or push roms.

Ecuflash does both flashing and editing of maps.

Just make sure you also download the definitions for ecuflash and place them in the appropriate folder.

Ecuflash will be a start. I do like the interface for romraider better though.

So when you're in romraider, if it won't open a rom then you can usually Google that rom ID and find a definition request thread on the romraider forums. Through there you can download and add the definition to your romraider.

Let me know the ID of the rom you can't open and I'll look for you.
