Stand alone IAT (intake air temperature)

I have been looking at several ways of re-arranging the intake tract in order to get the maf after the charge cooler. The main problem is that any charge cooler capable of handling the flow won't fit in the space I have, so I'm going to straighten out the intake pipe and insert a larger maf tube to help with scaling but the problem I will still have is that the maf is still before the charge cooler.

So my plan is to install a small stand alone temp probe into the charge cooler. I have identified the 2 wires on the maf that deal with the IAT.

According to the wiring dia. pin 5 is a signal ground. So my question is has anyone tried this ans secondly is there a specific type of probe that is going to work with the ecu, I have no idea what the parameters are for the OEM IAT.

Any help, pointers gratefully received.

I had this sensor installed in the threaded hole at the front of the WTA cooler. Be careful when drilling and tapping the hole as it has a helicoil in it.

Wiring is simple, just take the wires from pins 4 and 5 on the maf and connect them straight up ( no polarity)

Also, looking at the photo i can see there are no bolts in the mounting points for the cooler. You will be loosing boost out these holes so maybe look at getting them plugged up.

Wow, thanks. that's exactly what I needed to know, will try and find something similar in the UK.

No worries. Good luck with it.

If you have any questions just flick me a PM.

Just to clarify, The IAT sensor is non polarized as essentially it is a Resistor. The ECU is measuring the Voltage drop across this resistor then references the 2D lookup table stored in the ECU to determine what the temp is. Bit of useless information for people :D
