Bricked ECU, need replacement to tune

Postby S217 » Wed Feb 03, 2016 10:57 pm

Hi guys,
After sending my car to get tuned at a tuner, my ecu managed to become bricked.
Sent off the ecu and immobiliser to get repaired with no luck.
So i need to replace the ecu and was wondering what my options are..
at this stage i would not mind an tuneable aftermarket ecu as im afraid of bricking the factory ecu once again.
car is 2006 Liberty GT tbSTI prelift MT sedan.

Intriguing, contact Entra in ACT, they unbrick ecu's iirc.

How did you get it bricked?
Why did you try to get the immobiliser fixed as well?

If you do score another ECU, the car will need to be re coded at the dealer, but it's not required for a basic reinstall of the original after unbricking.

There is no need to be afraid of bricking your ECU, you just need to follow a few safeguards when flashing.
Backup power for the car, backup rom, backup PC, knowledge of the safe operating procedure, eg identify the ECUflash success report, do not key off if flash unsuccessful.

Yeah, as Ben suggested there are companies that can unbrick your ECU.

Have you tried to just reflash it with eg a Tactrix, or is it totally dead? Because I wouldn't rely on the equipment of the tuner who bricked it.

Wreckers obviously have used ECU for sale, or you can buy new. Used ones will work as long as it's the same engine and Transmission (pre and post facelift being different ECUs). But since you're reflashing it anyway, putting eg an ECU from an Auto into a Manual should be fine as well, if the ECU Part# is the same. I can run VINs through the Subaru Parts catalogue if you'd like.

If you are going to buy new, I can highly recommend http://www.Partsouq.com. Subaru Australia want over $2,000 for an ECU, but this overseas Parts specialist only charges US$867 for the same genuine Subaru Part. Postage has always been cheap and fast (at my door within a few days) whenever I've used them.

EDIT: Sorry, I only saw you mentioned your vehicle type in your last line of your post.
