Hey guys,

Recently got a 2005 Gt liberty wagon with 152k on the clock. Interested in getting in tuned so I emailed MSR (heard he was the man) and he said that he wants to make sure the car is healthy enough, which is great rather then just selling me a tune!!
So was wondering if any other people have got their cars tuned around this age?

I bought my car at 160,000km and turned up everything! (it exploded, but that was a failing fuel pump)

A tune can certainly favour long term reliability.
And any decent tuner will be looking for mechanical issues before going ahead.
Eg ocv vvt solenoids, front o2 sensor, plugs & coilpacks, oil pickup, cats to name a few potential issues.
But preparing the car prior is the way forward beginning with DIY logging with eg Tactrix, vagcom or BtSsm.
I'd recommend the latter combo if on a budget.
MSR can also help with sourcing and installing various suitable upgrades, or do the research here for eg fuel pump, dump, 3port etc.
If you mod the car w/o a tune it's best to very temporarily run it off boost at wastegate pressure, until tuned, or at least logged.

Once again, log, analyse, replace or upgrade for reliability - then upgrade to support a little more power... And get it tuned at some stage of this process.
Being sure and confident of the state of the tune, and the reliability of the parts is the key to long term reliability.

Michael gave the engine the all clear!! So after talking to him, looking at doing the following:
Tune
Exhaust
Silicone Inlet
Cold air intake ( I want some induction noise haha)

I am looking to do a similar upgrade in the near future with MSR...

Can you give me a ball park budget for:
-dump (moar low end power)
-mid pipe (some more noise)
(Plan to leave the y pipe stock as i understand this is not so restrictive for the set up i am going and doesn't really add any sound. Also plan to leave the stock sti muffs and i dont want something too loud).
-CAI
-tune

Also did putting in the CAI give the car a louder BOV sound ? i was thinking of getting an aftermarket BOV but after some reading seems like a CAI can achieve the same result with some added benefits.

Where did you get the idea that the stock y pipe isn’t restrictive?

There is a reason every aftermarket mid/pipe (always sold together as a “mid pipe”) pushes 3” mid out to 2x 2.5” at the Y.

But there’s nothing “wrong” with having a stock mid/tbSTi muffs on 3” dump either.

If you need to squeeze your budget, just wait for the right partout/s here or on FB, diy install as much as you can safely as per advice from your tuner, eg MSR, then drive the car off boost, to your quoted booking.
