If you're serious about logging & LV, Tactrix & BtSsm are the best solution for my01+ and hard to log JDM ecu defs...
See the lgt thread linked in the BtSsm thread here (first page) for the latest updates including CAN logging via Tactrix OTG or obd2link for my07+.
This means logging and LV support for my15 CAN only cars is on the way :)

Logging works with this cheap cable too.

I'm sure it is not as fast as the tactrix option, but it works just fine for running the gauges etc. Might not get the detail you need for tuning. But then if you are tuning you would have a tractrix cable anyhow. Right??

Yep aka a kkl adaptor via OTG if your android host supports it.
Use the BtSsm OTG? app to confirm :)

Perfect for the permanent installation so I am not tying up my Tactrix dongle.

Attempting to use BtSsm in my PostFL GT here. Using OP2.0 via OTG. Seemed to be the SSMCAN ECU so BtSsm doesn't initially work. In fact there isn't even any basic readout, stuck at querying ECU.
Read through the LegacyGT thread about patching the ECU. I thought great, easy! Through EcuFlash, downloaded the ROM, however find that I don't have the option of "Extended parameters".

So my question is, do I need a tuner to allow for this patch to be applied?

What model lib is it?
What's your host hardware, and how are you making the connection to the ECU, eg BtSsm BT plug, or OTG via Tactrix or SSMK plug?

If it's a special ECU, maybe try using an ECU alias using the next nearest ECU ID from the list iirc on the RomRaider site.
And the developer is very helpful either via the BtSsm site or as Heiche on the LGT BtSsm thread eg via PM...

I'm in Melbourne if you need local assistance :)

Hmmm, I'll try to answer everything precisely from now on.

07' Liberty GT Spec.B Wagon
BtSsm connection through Nexus 5 -> OTG cable -> Tactrix OP 2.0 -> ECU

Rom Raider/Ecuflash was through Windows 8.1 Netbook -> Tactrix -> ECU

I doubt the ECU is anything special, although the apparently the first owner of the vehicle had tuned it, but for arguements sake lets say it is untouched. I'll try to choose a different ECU ID and see if it changes anything.

I have successfully logged, sighted the LV, and downloaded the current ROM on the ECU through my netbook. Nexus 5 is definitely OTG capable so through my reading I'd say my ECU is CANBUS type and requires some sort of patch. I will definitely take you up on the assistance if I can't get it to work!

Thank you!!

Erm hold that thought.... After trying this again (since the last time I actually plugged it into the phone was about 4 months ago), it seems the updates to the app are now allowing it to work properly.

Now it's time to tweak it!! I'm a happy chap, thanks for the assistance Benny!

You may have noticed the updated connection options in settings :)
Be careful of your mini USB port on the Tactrix, as its surface mount and easily parted if the plug is kicked, I'd use a right angle low profile mini USB and tape or hot glue it in, then plug that into an extender if reqd for the long term.

Good idea. I have been quite careful with it so far, not the best angle/position when you're punching hard on/off the throttle.

Me too, a dab of hot glue is on the cards, as I I've been lucky so far ;)

I have a right angle OBD extender and the tactrix lives in the fuse compartment. Works perfectly. I only did this after I killed my first tactrix USB connector.
Now I have also put in a $10 OBD reader cable off Aliexpress for BTSSM and really only use my taxtrix for flashing and logging to SD card.

I've made ECU specific BtSsm parameters so I no longer need Tactrix SD card logging.
However SD logging would still be useful for logging 0-5v analogue via pin8...
Tactrix has an on board A/D converter for the 2.5mm jack or pin8.
The only currently supported external logging inputs for BtSsm are deleted TGVs or disabled rear 02 sensor, for 3 inputs total. This was recently discussed on the lgt thread.

G'day,

Being an Apple user I was hoping to gain some info from experienced Android and Liberty owners.

I have the factory sat nav so was hoping to be able to connect to the factory screen.

Not having an Android phone can I use my home wi-fi to download BtSsm without using a sim card in a Samsung or similar phone? Or can I just use my sim card, buy the app then use the app once sim card is removed again? Sorry I've never used an Android so not familiar with the google Play app store.

Can an Android device continue to be used for this purpose without a sim card?

Cheers.

Yeah as long as you have decent wifi and a google account you should be sweet.
Easiest way forward is a $60 android tv box with AV out and a $20 vag com into the OTG port.

Plus the BtSsm app.
This is the simplest, most reliable approach.
But you'll want to program it eg on a tv screen or monitor as the stock nav res is really low.
The BtSsm app settings will allow auto start, Tasker can be used for other automation, DropSync and Dropbox to sync logs to the cloud.

Or an android phone with av out or use a hdmi to AV converter or mhl to AV converter.
