Confused about correct cable to use with FreeSSM

Postby Alpejohn » Fri Oct 10, 2014 9:29 pm

Hi,

Im looking for a good diagnostic tool for my girlfriends Legacy 2.0R 2007 model.

Found alot of info, and the FreeSSM seems to be perfect for me.
But im a bit confused about what cable to buy.

In this thread he sais i need a VAG-COM cable not newer then 311.3 (409).

So fare so good, but when searching on ebay, i only find 409.1 cables, and after reading some more i find
peoples using this cable but cant connect to the car. This might be a few years ago, so software might have changed to support newer cables.
Others say it will work.

I have searched on the forum too, but not getting the answers i need.

Is it OK to use the 409.1 cable? :)

Regards
Fredrik

I believe its fine. I use a 409.1. Takes a couple of attempts to connect. Have to turn ignition on and off but eventually it works.

Nice!
A friend of mine has a Vagcom cable, will borrow it later today and check what version he has, and see if i can get it to work. :)
Then i will order a cable on ebay.

Btw, have you changed the baud rate in advanced options for com port?
I read somewhere that it had to be set to 4000 something, not 9600.. :)

Thanks! :)

Edit:

Borrowed a VAG K+ CAN Commaner Full 1.4 cable from a friend, this works great with FreeSSM software! :D
There where no fault codes, live data worked great! :) Im so happy right now!
This was a big problem for me, to not be able to read fault codes my selfe on the subaru, but now i can!
