Worthwhile tuning standard MY08 2.5i 5M

Postby SileNceR » Mon Mar 24, 2014 11:04 am

As per the subject, is it worth tuning a standard MY08 2.5i Manual?

How conservative is the factory tune? We'd be happy to run 98 if a tune made it a requirement, as one would assume the mileage will improve as well.

I know the power gains won't be huge but a little can't hurt.

It's worth it and you can get tuned onto any fuel you like.

You would be able to get some better fuel economy and a little bit more power down low.

If you had the option I would go for e85 while you're at it.

Apparently some factory tunes can be so bad that you may have some knock events which are bad for your engine life.

So there are many small differences on a 2.5i, added up it does make a tune worth the small price.

How much does a tune typically run to? Is there a specialist around Geelong anyone can recommend or am I better looking to someone in Melbourne to do it?

I would say the sweet spot in terms of value would be to get an E tune (tune via email where it requires you to log and then send the log to the tuner for the next revision to be sent to you) or try to catch Matt from kidotuning in person to get a road tune.
He's already done at least one other 2008 2.5i manual lib as far as I know. He's also done my 2.5i AT lib.

I would suggest sending him a PM and get a quote.

Or purchase a tactrix cable and then your tuner could be from the USA or wherever. The cable can be had for under $150 used from ebay or rexnet. There are some other tunes mentioned on other forums like cryotune etc...

Late reply, but you can check out my personal experience on tuning my own MY08 2.5i with XRT here.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...
