Throttle Map

Postby Newbie GT » Mon Dec 30, 2013 9:18 am

Hi mate has had a tune while back and after tune the throttle was very sensitive touchy therefore making it hard to take off smoothly etc.

This was "turned down" .

Question I have is wouldn't this decrease over all power ?

Eg 0-100 would that change ? (From original sensitive map to adjusted turned down map?)

Thanks don't flame please

I posted a thread here years ago explaining how the Subaru DBW works, how it integrates with boost control and how to modify it to achieve a desired outcome.

Do a search and you'll find it. It answers all your questions.

Then you and your mate can make custom DBW maps to suit yourselves. It's really easy. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?

Will take a read thanks mate

In simple terms is power lost when throttle is dulled down ? Overall performance lost ?

Newbie,

Tony's DIY DBW thread can be found here

Top Gear or similar did a timed track test with a multi mode car and found the results to be somewhat counter intuitive, the economy setting was fastest, presumably because of the smoother power delivery, the driver could focus on taking the fastest line on the track for the better time. YMMV.

I think that was Fifth Gear actually Ben. Recall seeing something similar.

Fuel consumption is the same on the stock tune too...

I'd imagine performance with Matt's tune is different again in each mode... As the SI Drive controller is also a boost selector :good:

I'm still baffled Ben. If you have a tune and have Std throttle map in place and not a tweaked one lets call it there will be loss in power and responsiveness yes? Or am I on wrong track

No: Matts tune exploits the SI drive control option to allow 3 boost levels.

The stock SI drive is either wastegate pressure in I mode or 16psi in the other 2 modes.

There's 2 or more parts to SI drive...
Boost level.
Throttle angle/ramp.

Obviously the boost bit will affect power...
The throttle part affects the delivery of the power.

So a steeper ramp might feel more touchy...
And the gentler ramp will feel more relaxed...

But if you mash the throttle in either it will be up to where the boost limit is set I'd say till you hit the rev limit. :)
Any how if you are getting a tune, which by now, you should, it's a good idea to request max requested torque at 80% if you like it reasonably hectic... And 70% if you like your hectic slightly chilled.

Please correct me if any misinformation present :)

So Ben if I was saying sitting around 2000rpm and mash the peddle it would deliver the same power at the same responsiveness as if I had a more touchy throttle map ?

Yeah bc it's my understanding the throttle angle adjustments all conclude at 100%.

The differences are applied to the response in between.
There's even a basic graphic displayed on the dash when changing modes to give you the idea.

Regardless of the angles you will have more power in S & S# because I mode is usually wastegate pressure.

Makes sense I think you can have multiple throttle sensitivity settings though ..
