I'm finally committing to tuning my stock lib. I don't have a big budget, but I'm thinking turbo back exhaust, to stock sti mufflers and a re-tune. Considering dump pipe if it helps much. What kind of 0-100 can I expect, given that stock is 5.9secs apparently? Also what kind of power gain? I do 45,000kms/yr and it's obviously a daily, so I don't want a 100%max tune, as I need reliability

5.8 secs? 5.7 sec? I hope your not expecting a change from claim 5.9 to 4.0 sec... its not that simple unfortunately...
take your massive sub system out of the boot? you'll shave another 0.1-0.2 secs off joking mate

10-20kw maybe? with some torque gains - better low, mid and slight top end difference with tune backed up to it...

conflicting statement? you need a 100% tune to make your car reliable, safe and tune consistent as much as possible.....

Thank for your honesty mate yeah, I am considering selling the sub and amp as I'm more into performance side now.

I was hoping maybe closer to 5 second mark, I know I need to put a lot more money in if I was hoping for 4 seconds.

So after a turbo back exhaust and retune, you reckon I'll only be 0.2 secs better? Surely that can't be right

Setting number goals when tuning is a good thing with a race car but not so much with a street car. As Justin has said better to set goals like increased torque, better drivability, etc. Getting a 1600kg car to go 5sec or under is going to take a fair increase aka $$$ if you want to keep it as a reliable daily. There's also going to be quite a lot of downtime for tuning etc.
a good exhaust, a good tune, and if your budget allows a bigger turbo, like the VF52 that many here have done, will certainly improve things. It might turn ou to be what you are looking for.

Thanks Adrian, I've found a member with the same car as me and same mods I'm going for, who claims they are at the 5 second mark, I guess I'll have to mod and see. It's not so much that I see 5 secs as a magic number, as it is less than the 0-100 time of most v8s and semi performance sedans and hatches. Just want to be able to take the lead when I feel the need... For speed

Exactly. The "butt" dyno after adding a tbe and a good tune will feel incredible. The problem is, once you open the "mod bug box", it's hard to stop...

i spoke to you about this on facebook the other day.
Now that youre asking the question in the correct place (ie without all the wrx owners chiming in as theyre a completely different weight class) you should get all the answers youre looking for just by looking at what mods people have and what it takes to get such a heavy car to 5 seconds flat.
If you search for it there are a few people that have posted 0-100 times, but theyre on a very sticky drag strip with as much weight taken out of their cars as possible.
As i said the other day though, and as others here have said. Just get the exhaust and tune and dont sweat about the figure. I promise it will put a smile on your dial.

IMHO, 0-100 means jack in the real world.
80-120 in-gear acceleration is where it counts.
i.e how fast it is to do a quick overtaking maneuver from just pushing the loud pedal

As others have said, tune, turbo, get it breathing, exhaust - low 5's.

Sub 5's is more money

Sub 4's is a shitload of money

Sub 3's is a waste of money

Thanks guys. As you have all said, I should just shut up, do it, and enjoy hopefully I will be updating you all soon on how it went. I do agree, being quick at overtaking is important, which is what I want too, but I also want some nice, off the line results. I think I might time myself before and after, just for shits and giggles.

I don't think anyone has actually timed themself pre and after a stock tune. Will be interesting.

Did you take a peek at the pre tune checklist link in my sig?
I'm at a safe afr, 18psi, 168kw atw with 3"tbe and pump.
It's great.
It's the gateway for more mods for sure but it's also plenty for the street IMHO.

Thanks Benny, yes I have in fact read your pre-tune list and found it very helpful. Will be changing spark plugs etc before the tune. Still reading through other tuning related threads to make sure I know what I'm getting myself into. I just want to be sure that I will not be sacrificing reliability, as I heavily rely on my car for work (long distance daily as I call it). At the moment i'm changing oil and oil filter at least every 10,000 but will be doing it every 5,000 after the tune. I just put on km's so quick, hard to keep up (pretty much 50,000km's now in last 12 months). My cars about to hit 125,000 on the clock and will be getting my coolant flushed. Did my timing belt and transmission fluid, and spark plugs when the car hit 100,000. Anything else I should be doing maintenance wise ongoing after the tune? I've noticed most people "log" and learn the cars stats, will be doing that as well after the tune.
