I am about halfway through a nexus 7 dash install in my lib and thought I would give an OBD adapter and and the android app Torque a go.

I've found the port (near the bonnet release) and inserted the adapter.

It connects to my nexus and pairs.

Then I open up Torque, it connects to OBD (after taking ages) then tells me that it cant connect to the ECU, then another message later saying:
unable to automatically fine ECU protocol, please check you ignition is on (it was) or send a log file to the developer

After doing a bit of research it turns out that some australian cars do not use the OBD port even though it has one.

So does my Liberty support it?

If so, am i doing something wrong, i'm pretty sure its not the adapter (got the first one replaced because I thought it was the problem, second one has the same results) and i've tried other android devices as well.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately you will need a device that can read SSM (Subaru Select Monitor or something) even then, you will be very limited to what sensors you can read. As far as I am aware, gen 4's are the first ones that can use the OBD2 functions.

Also, OBD2 wasn't required in Australia until early 2000's from what I've read (someone can confirm this?) so there are many cars made after 1996 that whilst they had an OBD2 port, they weren't actually set up for full OBD2 compliance. I hope that makes sense :D
