IAM is below 1... this car is starting to get frustrating.

Previously had boost issues - where once the revs hit 2K it feels like it's (the engine) hesitating and no boost/acceleration until I hit 3K revs and the boost comes in hard. There is no way that I've found to drive it smoothly, so I spend my time trying to keep it below 2K.
It has been in the garage (John French) - checking out split pipes etc - the only issue they found was the intercooler was leaking which they sealed up. About a week later the issue returned, so I got a second hand top mount off a member here and it has been running fine since then (about 3 - 4 weeks ago). Sadly yesterday the same issue returned so I decided to do a learning view to see if the IAM had dropped again.

Anyone have any ideas ?

I have been battling the exact same issue for over a year now. I had a power steering pump crap itself that was making enough noise to cause a false knock. I was having the weird drive issue at the same point in the rev range as well. It has improved since I replaced the pump and had a re-tune (Matt tunes my car as well) but I did have it return on me the other week. I also have the AVCS out of sync issue, when Matt tuned my car last we went for a drive and logged it, we could see they were very badly out of whack and could be adding to the same problem. I have new OCVs on the way now so if that is a permanent fix I'll be sure to update you.

It's weird because you can be driving around fine for weeks then it just creep up on you as the IAM slowly drops, then you're driving like crap for a week or two until the IAM slowly goes back up again, then it repeats it's so weird!

I'll also note when you are in the worst of the symptoms you get a weird fluttering sound on spool up when it's in that range of hesitating around 2.5k rpm.

Is that the turbo surging or stalling?
Or the TB hose gasket on song?

I'd assume surging. I'm also replacing my TB hose just for the hell of it as I'm not really confident in the stock one with this TMIC.

I was googling it some more and found another solved with a spark plug issue. Replaced plugs, all good.

Quote: I am having an issue under when I first go under boost at about 4000rpm when the turbo just makes a big fluttering noise, boost goes up and the car goes nowhere....

Issue was a misfiring spark plug, thankfully not major, still had a big effect on the car. Unquote

Benny unfortunately got it right - cylinder 2 has low compression. :angry2:

Now to figure out options....

Agree with alexei, try all cheaper options first before the more expensive ways.

Now this has got me worried!
I noticed a massive improvement after changing the OCVs, though the issue has returned twice since then. It didn't last as long though. Compression test is probably on the cards..

I haven't checked, though the battery isn't really that old. Around a year or so.

Here is a Learnt Values output from the BtSsm device.
Not a pretty as LV but hopefully more convenient.

Which tune are you running BBB? I thought you mentioned you were running a conservative tune?
Is the knock from the tune? The fuel used? or do you have some sort of issue developing?

I haven't had it re-tuned since putting the more restrictive mystery muffs back on.
So boost is peaking 1 or 2psi higher.
I have been told to not worry too much about a little knock, assuming the ECU can compensate for it, may I ask: am I out of the safety zone here?
