Just thought I would start a thread on installing a wide band, something I intend on doing in the near future. I was just wondering where is the best place to mount the sensor in the exhaust? My kando headers has a threaded hole in the up pipe, which I suspect is there for that reason, but I have heard that it needs to go 10cm downstream from the turbine outlet (in the dump).
If anyone else has some handy tips, post them here so people can search it in the future, or so NewbieGT can start a thread on the subject, completely ignoring the search function.

From what I've read and seen, the up pipe threaded hole is for an EGT sensor.

The wideband O2 sensor is is normally placed in the dump just after the turbo. I have the AVO dump and the cast collector had the bung already there so I used the provided location.

The gauge is mounted in the cubby.

If you are looking I'd probably consider the AEM wideband a better option from the Innovate simply due to the fresh air calibration that the Innovate seems to require from time to time.

Yeah, I have used AEM ones before, and will use again, great product for the price. I'll do an install thread in a few weeks when I get back from NZ. My mate has an exhaust shop so I'll get him to put a threaded "hole" in my dump and take it from there.
Any chance of a picture of your dump (paging the innuendo brigade)? Just to get an idea of the hole location. As you said in your thread, wideband is pretty much a must have.

i had issues overheating the sensor in my TT and that was level with the front seats

needs to be between the turbo and CAT, but as far down the dump as you can get it

Rob, on the AVO dump pipe the cat is quite high up in the dump. I checked the location with Sharpie and he seemed to think it was fine.

I have seen people adding heat shield etc but I've retained the factory shields.

Will keep an eye on it and will report back should it die.

I've got the AEM supplied bung. Will take a look on the weekend and see what my options are with regards to space.

I installed this over the weekend. I took the car down to Cleveland Exhaust to get the bung installed. Ended up with the bung about next to the flywheel. Took the power from the cigar lighter and used the bolt in the chassis behind the lighter as an earth. The hard part was getting everything to go back together.

Has anyone installed one in a PHAT dump? Does the ceramic coating cause any problems when welding the bung in?

Shouldn't do. Might need to sand off the coating where the weld is going to go at worst.

I put mine on the passenger side to get turbine outlet AFR's(not heat restricted WG AFR's) which since the gas expands so quickly post turbine is 'cooler' than choked up WG gas coming out a small hole.

1 more Q: is there enough space to have the sensor pointing down eg at a 45 degree angle in that spot?
Mark suggested to fit the dump first to check, but if I can do it once, better!

I'll have a look where mine is on Wednesday night. Mine is about abeam the rear of the front suspenion from memory, which leaves plenty of room for it to mount at 45 degrees.
