False knock at 2000 rpm?

Does anyone have any experience in false knock around 2000 rpm?
I have been through a very long winded tuning process with Xtreme Race Tuning and we can't get rid of the knock at 2000 rpm. Finally took it to a tuning mechanic (ASG in Perth) and he had a listen and said that it is normal 2.5T engine noise. Unfortunately that normal noise causes the car to retard at those rpm leaving me with a flat spot.
So the question is do I replace the knock sensor because it may be overly sensitive or tune out the knock correction at these low rpm? Chances are that replacing the knock sensor will be a $300-400 pointless exercise. This has been the case in a few forums I've read (eg. http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopi ... =15&t=6294).
Any opinion with this would be greatly appreciated.
