Tune - MY08 STI Liberty

Postby miller0 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 8:07 pm

Hi everyone,

I had my 08 STI Liberty fitted with an XForce turbo back exhaust on Friday, followed by a tune with Michael South (MSR).
The exhaust is three inches from the turbo back, and then mated up to my stock STI quad mufflers.

I am absolutely over the moon with the result. I wasn't expecting the car to drive as well as it does now, nor was I expecting that much of a power figure.

The turbo spools up faster, and the car now has a nice note to it now with no drone what so ever - exactly what I was looking for.
Michael said the overall power figure was the best he has achieved on an STI Liberty, and after taking it for a drive himself, was stoked with the end result.

Huge thanks to Michael South for the exhaust install and tune, I honestly couldn't be happier.

Dyno sheet below.

And a shot of the car.

Tune - MY08 STI Liberty

A very freakish power result, well done . Many people have spent buckets loads more money for more mods and for marginally more power than this!

That is great. And even with stock muffs. Is the exhaust the only mod?

Thanks mate, I know - Michael was as surprised as I was.
Still smiling!

Yep, only mod is exhaust.
I spoke to Michael alot before going in for the tune, and he advised that he actually got a better result by mating up the STI quad mufflers to a 3" XForce exhaust before, plus it lowered the noise level, so I went with that.

Nice, seems too easy to get that much power :P Is 18psi safe on the stock turbo and internals?

Got a clip of the exhaust sound? I don't want mine much louder than it is at the moment, just more of an aggressive sound when I open it up :)

Apparently so. Michael is a very safe tuner, so I have my full trust in him.

I don't have an exhaust clip right now, but can possibly get one for you over the next few days.
Even from a video, it's hard to get an accurate and true sound but.

I definitely recommend this combo tho (XForce > STI quads). I had the same concerns as you; didn't want something too loud, or droney.
There is a clip in the Exhaust section of the forums from Jery who has the same setup - check his out :)

Fair enough, always good to know.
No problem, if you do put one up I'd love to hear it. Yeah sounds exactly like what I'm after, I want the power gains and a note but nothing loud and definitely not droney :)

Is this the one you're talking about? I'd love the sound of this as long as it doesn't drone while driving :)

Yep, that's the one. Sounds alot deeper when driving, but there is definitely no drone.
I would definitely recommend it.

Hello Luke,

Nice results there?! dont take this the wrong way? I'm just curious.....

But I must ask....looking at jacks-GTB results also from MSR and his current mods...I'm just wondering how can you of pulled that figure? especially on the torque side of things?

I'm kind of thinking the same thing, doesn't look quite right. If you get a chance you should take it to the drags or do a few 0-100km/hr pulls and let us know the results :)
