Out: greddy pod filter
In: COBB intake

Will I require another tune?

If the cobb intake includes replacing the pipe that goes under the intake runners to the turbo inlet, yes. If not, not really.

Right now my pod is still connected with the stock plastic intake pipe? Would that be the blue air intake pipe you're referring to?

As with any change (providing the part is designed to give better performance) it will be a little better after a retune but for just a pod its hardly worth it. even if you did do the turgo pipe (the one that goes under the intake runners) it would still be fine without a tune. but once again would be slightly improved if so desired. you wouldnt notice to much change though.

I'm going to put it out there for correction or agreement.

Take a Learning View snapshot of your ECU.

Install your intake and drive a about normally for a couple of weeks and then take another snapshot.

If you see a lot more correction, then perhaps consider a tweak of your tune.

That is all other things being the same including the usual petrol brand and outlet.

Ok new intake is in!

Seems like its running rich at the moment, i can see a bit more black smoke cominh from the exhaust but ill drive around for a fee more days and see if it re-adjusts. Should i be disconnecting the battery at all bruce?

I wouldn't think there's any need to disconnect the battery.

And given what you are swapping in, the resultant changes should be minimal.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge chimes in and provides a more definitive answer.

Thanks Mr Miyagi.

Without playing with subarus I'm not 100% on them however if they run a MAF then it should be able to adjust the tune to compensate for the extra airflow, the main VE table is used by the maf to check the values of predicted airflow vs actual and make fueling adjustments to suit.

Check your fuel trims if you are really concerned, if not a bit of black smoke is probably a bit rich to compensate for the slight increase in airflow. Unless you are planning on increasing boost I'd leave it as is, run a couple of tanks through for it to relearn its trims.

black smoke seems odd, i had a full AVO intake from the pod in the AVO box through to the turbo with the silican pipe with no tune. i had no smoke, excess fuel use or knocking. it barly changed when i compared the before and after snapshots. made me a little angry i forked out cash when there was no real change.

That being said are you sure the smoke is fuel? i have seen the increase in air flow drawing a little more oil through then normal for a little while after a intake change. but not on a subaru. but the where turbos.

Looking back though the OPs other posts in the past he's recorded a fuel consumption reading of 12+ liters per 100kms consistently.

I'd daresay the car is either running fairly rich from the start. This would explain the black smoke.

George could you comment on your driving style and mode you normally drive in.

Hmm that could very well be true, I was only able to notice it in the dark yesterday under streetlights.

Im always in stop start traffic m-f and enjoy giving it a squirt (more than i should) to get a feel of the car

I know the cars capable of better fuel economy but i rarely go a stretch to be able to put it on cruise!

From the horror stories ive heard from justin im not sure if i should take it back to hpf for a retune or just go to springy for a complete retune :(
