The clamping pressure is one of the primary target for his mods, he increases it at higher rpms which is where the power comes in with modded cars so there is less slippage.

He also suggests some bushings for the centre diff to stop it being destroyed by hard launches too.

The fella has used his own car as the guinea pig so I think he may know more than people that have not been drilling into and replacing VB parts.

It's the long term durability that may suffer, as it usually is with most mods....

PS 2.5L gearboxes are different internally (simpler, more streamlined to achieve the result)

Yeh but he's selling his own product, I wouldn't trust this mod until it's been proven successful over a longer period of time. Haven't the IPA ones had problems over time? Or whatever the acronym is :P

Yes and no. Depending on tunability of the auto this can be overcome by torque management between shifts. Pull a bit of timing out helps. More an issue with a converter as higher torque multiplication comes into the equation.

Also line pressure won't hurt a box as long as it is consistent, along with this is if you are commanding more line pressure you will have less oil in the pan so I would suggest a higher capacity pan with baffles if you are serious on big power through an auto

Thanks zorro, bigger baffled pan is a good idea!

I looking to give it a go as the Australian guinea pig provided fitment checks out.

I'm heading towards ,100,000km pretty soon so planned to change the transmission fluid then anyway.
Will attempt to fit the modded VB at my 90,000 service if all goes well.

The first mod will be the VB one.
Mine is a slow changer ar higher rpm, not what I want.

Once it is a faster changer up top I'll do more mods to get the power band up there.

That would be factory torque management settings to protect the driveline.

To be honest I have not played with the tuning software for these but do know how to tune an auto. First thing I do is to remove torque management on up shift and then apply as required to smooth the shifts, as I said earlier pull timing on shift, and then look at line pressures, shift points etc etc.

I can't see this mod being a great advantage as it may speed the shift with theoretically a cheated increase in line pressure but the ecu will still be pulling timing on the shifts when it shouldn't need to be

zorro, how can you change the shift points....my understanding is this TCU has not been cracked??

I see a fair few posts on romraider lately though so I am hopeful it will not be too much longer.

If you know how to get in the TCU and reduce or remove the shift delay, there is good money to be had from several markets.

I haven't don't it on subarus so I cannot tell you I'm sorry. However if you know what the controller is I can do some research on it

I think he means tune the actual TCU, which has not been done yet.

Tunes the ECU in a way that it interacts better with the TCU for a better drive and smoother shifts

the valve body mod enables the trans to run higher pressures and also enlarges oil flow restrictions so the fluid can get to the chambers faster.

the two most common modes of failure for the 5 eats are the center differential breaking due to too much torque in first gear.

and clutch pack ware due to slow shifts. like a manual box if you always let the clutch out very slow the clutch will wear out faster.

the quicker shifts keep the clutches cool. if the shifts were way to fast it could act like a hammer on the gears. where the clutches would last forever but the gears and shafts may break.

the high stall converter is only to be able to launch harder and to have more off idle acceleration.

if you guys slpit my flight to austraila i could modify a bunch of valve bodies for you guys :) to make things more worth while ;)
