Okay so are there no tuners who leave it completely unlocked and viewable?

When I used Springy Motors 3 years ago they used RomRaider to tune and there was no locking at all. I later edited the tune myself to change a couple of minor items to suit my personal taste.

I have heard (note: hear say follows) that HPF are now using open source (read RomRaider) to tune rather than EcuTek which is locked and must be unlocked to install another tune. HPF are not listed on the EcuTek website anymore.
Stopping is not optional!

hmm that sounds like me ... haha

i didn't signed any form or been told my ECU going to get locked.

Leo, you'll need the ability to switch between maps yourself once you're running E85 ;-)

You don't need Ecutek to lock tunes or ECUs. Although it goes completely against the purposes for which the community tuning tools were created, it is very easy to do it using them.

My understand of what Gambit was saying is that Springy Motors don't lock you out of anything.

yeah mike was telling me that .. and told me just get a drum of E85 at home and fill up myself as the supply here is quiet limited.

Last time when i was with Mike and Scott .. Scott was saying his working on a computer can adjust the tune base what fuel your using ? so if there is 80% E85 and 20% 98 in your tank ... the computer will adjust the tune to suit ?!? i really like the sound of that ! haha

hey guys,
this may be a noob question but what are the disadvantages of a tuner locking your ECU after they tune it ?
does anyone know if MSR lock the ECU also? i was thinking of going to MSR as ive heard alot of good feedback from people with liberty's.
thanks

Springy Motors do not lock any part of the ECU or the Tune, it's essentially an Open ECU tune. Thats viewable to anyone after they tune it.

Okay awesome, so I could get an initial tune done there and then tweak it myself? Would make things easier rather than trying to learn from scratch.
Can just compare a stock Rom to their tune to see what they change.

At a guess, when you get your car tuned by Danny, you won't need to change anything. :)
