after tune, what to do with $3000 now

Postby martian2go » Thu Oct 20, 2011 5:24 pm

Hi guys,

I have a Gen 4, 2008 Subaru Liberty GT-B.
The car was tuned by Paul from Pulse Racing about 1.5 years ago (stock standard prior to this tune).
It was great !! totally enjoyed the car in that period.

However I now feel I am ready for the 'next stage'.
Let's say I have about $3000 (maybe a bit more) spare cash lying around, give me suggestions as to what I can do with that ?

I am mainly looking to improve performance - acceleration and speed-wise,
especially from stop position (traffic lights), at the moment I feel starting acceleration is not great, car is alive only after it hits 50-60km/h ?

Any suggestions appreciated !

Thanks All !

I would go new top mount $1000 , dump pipe $1000, mufflers $750, remove intake resonator $0, new filter $70, but then your due for a retune.

E85 if it is available and consistent for the city you live in. Also consider with it the shortfall on klm per tank verse running on 98.

If it were me bigger injectors, more boost, cooler, meth injection and retune. Or n2o :D

Get a low mount inter cooler :) don't know how much they are to get a good one and set it up properly! But haven't seen one on a lib yet. Would definitely look different!
Now driving the mighty 86 :)

If you tune for E85 does that mean your car won't run at all on anything but?

Or could you get away with putting in 98 or something if you had no option.

Is your car manual or auto?

Kieran,

You could, but buying a $200 netbook and leaving it in the car is a much better idea.

Of course you need to have your car tuned by someone who doesn't lock the ecu for that to be an option.

Wait you can actually just detune it off E85 if you get caught out with no E85 pumps in the area?

That is awesome, I thought parts of the car had to be changed for E85.

You'd commonly change the injectors and fuel pump when upgrading to E85, but switching back to dino fuel is as simple as a few mouse clicks (if you have the maps).

Poor pulse...so many negative experiences from them circulating around now. I'd almost feel sorry for them if I hadn't heard half the stuff they do!

wow a few hours and heaps of replies - you guys are awesome !
I will now just reply to all:

@Rome STI: I wouldn't say my experience is bad, it's the total opposite :)
Apart from slow start, I feel the car is a beast compared to before tune, once the turbo kicks in its really 'head and body into the seat' kind of feeling.
ie once at 40-50km/h I can go to 120km/h in about 3secs - honest, which I think its pretty good no ?
anyhow, can you recommend other tuners in sydney for my next job ?

@senator / coyote: The graph they gave me says 'Max 180.5kw' - but I dont know if it is at the wheels.
Thanks but wouldn't it be better if I fit stuff in then re-tune?
Also, I thought Paul knows his stuff? Can you recommend anyone else?

@tangcla: It's an Auto.

@JDGT05: will that give me performance ? I don't care if it looks different / good :P

@E85 suggestions: is that the Ethanol fuel ? are you guys joking or talking serious?
I thought that's bad for your car, besides the car is not designed to run on that?

@hamish_023: I like your answer.
Can you please describe what sort of improvements I can expect from those?

Thanks again guys ! Appreciate it.
