Hey guys, just a quick question about my car. MY07 GTB.

Previous owner told me today that he had an ECUTek tune done on the car, (no mods, just tune). Before i knew this i had done the airbox resonator removal. My question is, is the removal of the resonator likely to have affected the tune in anyway or cause changes which may make the car run differently as to how it was tuned? I know the removal of the resonator doesnt sound like a huge mod but with all the electrics involved i feel it may have put me backwards a step?

Any input?

Your ecutek tune will have an untouched MAF sensor scaling table. I don't think ecutek tuners even know how to calibrate the MAF tables.

Whilst I doubt removing the resonator will have made much difference and the ecu will to some extent learn around it ... and I sound like a broken record here ... just buy yourself a Tatrix cable and check using Learning View.

That will still work with the ecutek, you just won't be able to fix it if there's anything wrong.

why would that affect MAF scaling?
as long as the diameter of the pipe the MAF is in is the same as stock and air flows through it smoothly, it will still calculate the correct airflow no matter what mods are done before and after the pipe?

this gets brought up all the time.. and no-one has ever provided a decent response as to my point above..?

If someone can point out the issues with my logic, let me know
-the MAF measures a flow rate,
-if you de-restrict the flow-path you can increase the flow-rate into the engine...
-but the MAF will still measure that change in flow-rate. that's it's primary function. to measure the airspeed through the MAF pipe
-as long as you keep the pipe size that the MAF is in the same (diameter) the flow-rate of air (volume or mass/sec) at a particular velocity (speed) you will always come out with the same result. (assuming constant density- air density is corrected by IAT and Atmo Corrections)

-faster air-speed cools the hotwire in the MAF more and thus results in a different voltage compared with a slower airspeed.
-as long as the pipe diameter is the same the calculation for Mass Airflow vs airspeed will always be equal

I agreed 100% with what you said, until I tested it for myself.

Only difference being filter, MAF scaling went out by almost 5% in some ranges.

I haven't tested with and without resonator on the same filter, as I don't believe the resonator is a restriction.

Note that I am absolutely not arguing with the logic of your theory, I've just seen evidence to the contrary.

O2 Sensor(s) and stored A/F learning. By changing nothing but the air filter, the effect is obvious.

By adjusting the MAF scaling for the new filter, A/F ratios are just about bang on target without any learned corrections.

This gives the ecu greater scope to adjust for dirty filters, different fuels, changes in atmospheric conditions, etc.

Also means you can tune more accurately, but that's a bit beyond the scope of this discussion.

However, it doesnt matter. Subaru being fantastic at servicing wiped the previous owners $2k tune off the ECU on the last service. Bastardos!

are sure the tune was removed??????? they are not easy to remove...... not even all approved ecutek tuners can figure out how to remove it.

Why do you think that?

To my knowledge, it is not possible for someone without ecutek software to flash the ecu through the normal connections. It has to be physically removed from the car.

+1......Arith ended up getting a new ECU fitted because he couldn't get rid of the Ecutek software.
