Then why not change it daily, or at least every time you fill the petrol tank?

I think it is a valid question and did not seem like a smart arse reply at all.

Guys please don't turn this thread to bickering and petty crap. This is a sound source of info for many people and it would be a shame to see it deteriorate into a penis wagging contest

Not trying to do that at all Mick,

Seems like there are plenty of guys here with great knowledge and experience with Subarus and E85.

I have been using this fuel for over a year in my falcon and have been reaping the benefits of E85.

I am also a great supporter of this fuel and wish it was more readily available.

I'm looking for some advice on how i can turn my car in to a duel fuel machine.
I'd like to be able to run E85 & ULP98 without me having to do much/anything apart from simply filling up.

With only 1-2 petrol stations in Canberra having E85 & numerous trips to country NSW, running just E85 is not an option.

So a few questions:
Is the ability to run both E85 & ULP98 feasible/practical?
What parts are required (rough costing)?
What will the total setup cost be (rough install cost)?
What are the pros/cons of running E85 (fuel consumption / power)?

Anything else relevant that I've missed...

As far as I know there is currently no way for you to be able to do it with having to do nothing other than fill up. There may be a flex fuel type sensor or conversion package you can purchase for our vehicles that I don't know about but as far as I know it's got a lot to do with the tune on our cars as well.

Mick (dr20t) tossed up the idea a while back of having 2 separate ECUs, one with a 98 tune and one with an E85 tune, however the car keys etc. are linked to the ECU so this theory was thrown out. The way most people tend to do it is have two different tunes saved, and when you want to switch between fuels you drain the current tank, and reflash the tune for the other fuel type.

As for parts, you would need as a minimum:
- Fuel pump and fuel regulator (I would suggest both). For both of these the price could range from $250-500 depending on brand and type.
- Larger injectors. If you are running stock power levels I would suggest maybe 750cc injectors, not sure if the stock injectors can handle E85. You could spend upwards of $400 for injectors.
- Installation for the above could be a few hundred bucks maybe.
- You would need two tunes. If these were dyno tunes you would be paying ~$700-$1,100 for the initial tune then say an extra $300-500 for the extra dyno time for the E85 tune, depending on who you go with. So all up maybe $1,000-$1,600ish.

Pros and cons are in this thread just do some reading. Fuel type is cheaper, which is offset by a 20-30% increase in fuel consumption, it basically balances itself out.

FYI I currently get 350-400kms off a tank of E85 which costs me roughly $60 each time I fill up. I have an upgraded turbo, intake, full exhaust, boost controller, FMIC etc. and I do not drive sedately so I consider that good enough fuel consumption for me.

Guess that's me out then...
Not really practical without the possibility of running both fuels.

Stay tuned. Matt (Kido tuning) is working on a way to run dual maps using S drive, so might make it more practical for you. Don't know the details though.

That's the way I do it in my Falcon, run tank down to almost empty and flash my tune in whilst filling up

why not program 2 ecu's to the imobliser. im pretty sure this could be done, you would clone the software from one ecu onto the other

Hmmm I doubt it.

But even so, it still involves disconnecting your ECU and reconnecting it, little bit more hassle than reflashing but prolongs the life of your ECU by not having to reflash at all.
