New Up Pipe - Acceptable?

Postby ysKn » Wed Oct 12, 2022 5:09 pm

Hi All,

I've just received delivery of a new Up Pipe that I purchased from an online retailer.

Upon opening and inspecting it, it doesn't seem to look right. There are deep scratches on the mating face to the turbo.

From these pictures, does it seem acceptable? I'm worried once installed, it will leak, even with gaskets.

The mating face to the header is better, but has finer scratches.

What do you guys reckon? Risky to install?

If they were new I would expect the face to be perfect without scratches etc, but having said that with a good quality gasket it should not leak . If you are concerned take it to an exhaust shop and ask them if they can reface it. It will only take them 20 seconds and the last time I got that done they didn't even charge me because it was so easy for them to do.

Yeah, it's supposed to be brand new.

I'm not sure if it can be resurfaced to be new. There's more than one really deep scratch, like the one in the 2nd picture.

Can I ask how much that cost?

To be honest unless it was a high-end name brand job, it looks pretty normal. Those flanges have been dropped or knocked around at some point, but overall look ok.
Theres a fire-ring type thing on the gaskets, as long as where that sits is ok then you should be sweet. Run a rule over the flanges to check how flat they are too. If nice and flat, dont stress. I'd be nervous about taking it to an exhaust shop to do a 'quick' clean it up. It'd most like be done by hand on a linisher which could make it not flat very easy!

It was only around $280.

Here's a clearer pic. Looks like maybe scratched during the manufacturing process?

Thanks, I'll check it out with a ruler when I get a chance.
