Difference between Mild, Unpolished and Stainless

Postby Buttz » Fri Jan 20, 2017 9:17 pm

So after hours of crawling forums and youtube, I have given up on trying to find a decent youtube video or sound clip of a Catback Xforce exhaust. I used one of their Catbacks on my RS Impreza and was impressed.

Now just begs the question, what grade of steel? The system comes in the following:

Mild Steel: $450
Unpolished Stainless Steel: $660
Stainless Steel: $795

Is there a major difference between the three? In terms of sound and noise?

Between the two stainless options, no. Between stainless and ms, its marginal. Personally I'd go stainless, doesn't rust etc

The polished stainless will be 304 grade, the unpolished maybe 407 which is a bit cheaper, and no labour used to polish it up. 407 doesn't hold its colour and tarnishes where it gets quite hot but is still far more durable than mild steel. Nearly all factory systems now are 407.
