Take a video from outside the car and rev it a bit.

Yeah I know that's why I said it's hard to tell exhaust note from videos. There definitely is more low frequency/burble coming through but it's hard to hear when you record on an iphone and play on a PC.

It's not a loud exhaust - but definitely a bit more than stock.

HyRax wrote:Unlikely you'll have picked up anything. Since 2001, Subaru ECU's have compensated for any unexpected variances in the car. The days of picking up 5kw just by removing the intake resonator or changing the exhaust to something more free-flowing ended there.

You can, however, get your car tuned to use those mods properly and gain a proper improvement. I tuned my own 2.5i and got a 10% improvement in power and torque without changing anything else. The car is much more fun and extra-driveable now.

Plan is to get it tuned as soon as the tuners have figured out how to get into the Hitachi ECU :(

They've gone back to Hitachi again? Damn, didn't know that. Hope it's a flashable version!
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

Not yet :(

And this time around I'm led to believe that the ECU and CVT control are in the one unit meaning you can't even use a piggyback. Double :(

Sounds great, considering doing the same to my gen 5 2.5
I'm guessing you're running cvt trans aswell? Does it drone at all?
What brand of mufflers are they?
Thanks heaps for your info

Yes it's a CVT transmission.

There's no drone, though I've only increased the exhaust size marginally over stock. If you start going to 3" systems then you run into drone issues but there's no reason to go this large with a 2.5 NA.

I'm not sure on the brand of muffler but they're off the shelf sports mufflers.

Awesome! I'm only looking at going to 2.25" diff back so probably be the same as yours.
I was worried what it would sound like as I havnt been able to see or hear any examples of this. Yours sounds exactly what I want.
Off to the exhaust shop I go!

Not sure where you're located but if you're local I'm happy if you (or others) want to hear/see it before investing your hard earned $ in a modified set-up.

I'm in Melbourne but am close to blitz custom exhaust who said they could do this setup for me no worries. If I wasn't happy we can play with it till it's right.
I will post sound clip and pics once done

Nice work. Yes if you have a good exhaust shop then you're already halfway there. Just make sure they know you don't want a race car and to keep it subtle - stock + 25% sound and you'll be fine :)

Well, all done now. Very happy with results.
Went with custom twin 2.25 from Axel back.
It's quite while cruising (almost non Existent from inside) but rumbles all the way through the rev range under load.
It has a little drone around the 1800-2000rpm range while accelerating , but nothing bad. When your at speed it goes

Looks great. Did you already have a second cut-out in the rear bumper? Not sure what the set-up is on the gen5.

Has it toned down now after driving? Mine has quietened down now after a month or 2.

Yeah, cut-out was there so was simple. It has quieten down a little but it's been few weeks , plus it doesn't get driven much so it make take a while to carbon up
