2001 Heritage Exhaust

I'd like to get the boxer rumble out of my car, but on a budget. I have a friend who said to look on here for advice. He mentioned that there might be a way to remove the baffling in the stock muffler. Is this something that has been done before? If it is all too hard, i will probably just buy the parts and install a cat back exhaust myself.
