2008 GT TBSti or 3.0R

Postby Kontrl » Thu Sep 11, 2014 12:18 pm

Hey there all,

One thing i'm wanting to achieve is the nice Subaru rumble :)

I have heard this is achieved with a boxer engine and UELs (If I'm not mistaken) But also heard it's nicer on a H6...

The GT TBSTi has the boxer engine but is only four cylinders, compared to the 3.0R which is 6 Cylinders H6.

Which engine would be best to achieve the Subaru Rumble? Looking at purchasing a Liberty in the near future (If the right car becomes available)

Further more another question :D

One thing I'd love to do is be able to control the exhaust volume to an extend, One way I can see this is achieved is by the use of a Varex Muffler system, but with the liberties being a dual exhaust system means two would be required if added on the tips... Has anyone replaced their mid-pipe muffler with a Varrex of similar specs? Did it work or fail miserably? If not is this concept nice or already flawed?

if you want the boxer rumble you'd go for the tbsti. H6's don't rumble, they scream, i don't know who told you that they rumble..

TBE exhaust on the 2.5 will give wrx/boxer rumble

The 04-06 GTs with the 2.0 turbo engine are the ones with twinscroll and no rumble.

Dont need a Varex, with proper engine tuning with the exhaust on, the car is usually quieter on cruise/light throttle anyway. Under full throttle, noise levels go up ;)

Interesting,

Thanks for all the comments - I shall now patiently wait for the correct GT TBSTi to become for sale and jump on it :)

Hoping to get the open sounds of the video :)
