Info on exhaust upgrade for gen v please

Postby sssyco » Fri Apr 04, 2014 9:46 pm

Hi all, just got my gen v gt wagon and looking to upgrade exhaust. First problem is I can't find where to buy one from, best muffler website doesn't seem to list them anymore, and can't find any on ebay??

Next query, ideally I don't want to draw too much attention to myself so mainly upgrading for power reasons (will be getting tune as well), so I'm thinking to maybe only replace part of the system, if I just get dump or dump and mid section will the rest of the stock exhaust bolt up directly?

Last question is there any difference between exhaust parts for auto or manual gen v?

Thanks guys :D

Theres quite a few muffler options around

check out the japanparts website to get an idea of a very small list of what is available for muffler options

Theres a few GenV with diff exhaust setups - fujitsubo, HKS, invidia, prova, xforce - have a look into these to get an idea

The key deciding factor will be how much you are prepared to spend (unless you have bucketloads of discretionary cash)

re drawing attention to yourself - don't go too loud, and don't drive like an idiot and you should be ok

dump pipe would be best bang for buck performance upgrade, followed by tune. I'd do those first and then exhaust afterwards

Re auto vs manual - I recall the dump pipe is the one where there an auto and manual version - the mid pipe back to the exhausts should be universal

yeah im not wanting to spend too much, between $1000-$1500. Not really too fussed about stainless steel. Will definitely either just get the dump pipe or the full exhaust but im not sure about what dump pipes will match up with the rest of the stock exhaust. I just cant find anyone who stocks the exhausts in Victoria.

Well I called the Victorian distributor for xforce today and was told they only make a cat back exhaust for the 2010 liberty gt , and that he has been in the industry 30 years and xforce has never made a turbo back exhaust for that car???? Am I going crazy?

Yeah I thought so! It's all to hard, I miss my Silvia days where you could get any parts you wanted for dirt cheap!

I'm starting to wonder if I should bother with the dump or just get the tune, any idea what the power difference between just a tune or a tune + dump?

Have faith in Matt (Kido) he will be able to get you the best power output thats safe from a Dump and tune, and all at an affordable price.

I will be getting the car tuned by a mate who works at a local performance workshop with a dyno, same price as kido tune and I don't need to do anything myself :)

Thanks mate, your car looks nuts, ive always loved white cars with black accents (have had 2 white cars previously) but unfortunately wasnt patient enough to wait for a white GT to come along, but the silver still looks great. Part of the reason I was reluctant on getting a dump was i was worried about install difficulty and compatability with the stock exhaust, but after reading your experiences im seriously considering going with the Invidia dump pipe. How much did you pay for yours? Cheapest I have found is $658 USD including shipping (which sounds expensive considering I got a full SS turbo back exhaust for my old S13 for about the same price!) but i guess the liberty gt is way less common so not much competition for parts.

Give T-REXX (Troy) from Pro Speed Racing online a call/PM. He deals with Invidia parts and should know if he could get you a dump pipe to suit your car.
