Raptor headers -which cats?

Postby Out6ack » Sat Mar 01, 2014 9:00 pm

For those waiting on Raptor's H6 SS headers,

A) Which brand cats are you going to install?
B) 100 or 200 cell?
C) Will 100s be much louder than 200s?
I really don't want a tinny sound. 3rd delete will be my only other mod. Stock catback.
D) any brands to be avoided?
E) Where to buy H6 header gaskets other than Subaru?

Man, I can't wait for these!

Cheers.

Already installed - Mild steel version of Raptor H6 Headers
A) Installed - http://www.tuffcarparts.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=180_90_91_201&product_id=306
B) 200
C) Probably not too much. I ran Headers, 200cel cats, 3rd cat delete then stock back for a short time. Mine was rather tinny especially inside cabin.
Then wacked TCP Quads on. Massive sound improvement - a lot deeper rasp if u like for lack of a better word. Tinnyness gone. :D
D) Don't know
E) Stealeroo. Genuine ones can be used at least a few times, no sealant required.

Mate u will luv them along with a tune, hope this helps out.

Excellent info Grant.
That helps heaps thanx mate.
This is a family car & I really don't wanna phuck it up, hence the paranoid questions.
Did you have it tuned when you had just the standard cat back? I thought stock muffs were pretty good??
Anyhow, thanx again.
Cheers, Jay.

Had it tuned by Matt ( Kido ) after the Quads went on. Only had stock cat back for a couple of days, waiting for the Tcp Quads.

Stock 3.0R muffs are huge and pretty restrictive. Stock mid pipe with resonator & rear y-pipe are fine for ur application. But id definitely get some hi-flow
rear mufflers to compliment the header and front section upgrade.

Any reason you blokes are going the 2.5" rather than the standard 2.25" cats/Y pipe?? (Unless currently or future SC'd).
I thought you'd lose mid range torque?

Grant is supercharged. I plan on running 2.25" cats.

+1

XForce system I've installed is 2.25 so I'll also be going with that size.

Trying to figure out the diameter of the raptor headers going into the first two cats though...

2.25". Though it will be supplied with flanges anyway. Your zorst shop will need to weld a short length of pipe from the front of cats to a flanged end.

Cheers!

In terms of cat brands, I think I'm going with magna flow 200cpi, although there are xforce ones available on the best mufflers site for about 145 each

I was recommended 2 1/2 oval cats from a reliable source and always like to go with a tried and trusted method , I have access to a full shorts shop aswell so any mods or flanges I need to do I can .
My car goes like stink so far with just thenbetter free flowing mufflers ...can only imagine it will get better with the headers high flow cats and tune .

well the headers are out lads.

anyone actually pulled the trigger on some cats?

tossing up between xforce or magnaflow 200cpi cats - anyone got an opinion on either?

the only difference i can see is that the magnaflow are a oval shape whereas the xforce are more flat (better ground clearance).

Im pretty much sold on stainless steel ones...only because its a few $$ more and my entire system will be stainless so meh!

xforce: http://www.bestmufflers.com/bshop/produ ... ts_id=5319

magnaflow: http://www.tuffcarparts.com/index.php?r ... uct_id=306

my catback dimension is 2.25", so ill be also be keeping the cats that dimension (unless anyone knows better...)

If anyone's going for Magnaflows wouldn't it be better to get the ovals ones for better clearance?
