Mystery solved! Found this in the owner's manual (section 3-7) today:

NOTE (3.0-liter models only)
To protect the engine while the "P" or "N" position is selected, the engine is conrolled such that the engine speed does not become too high even if the accelerator pedal is pressed hard.


Guess the 3.0 liter engine is a bit of a wussy and needs protection by the ECU. :P

ahaha ohh thanks Jim :) ..
i think its due to too much raw POWAAHHH + noise.
It will make the tiny snail in the GT hide in there shell.. ahaha :P

Here my current set up. 3" phat dump pipe, 3"s/s centre pipe with aftermarket resonator back to stock y pipe and sti quads. No drone at cruise but a nasty bark and some pops when kicked to 4000 rpm revs. Subtle rumble at idle.
